Department of Urology, Union Medical College Affiliated to Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology was established in the early 1950s. It is one of the earliest urology specialties independently set up in Hubei Province and even the whole country. This discipline is the first batch of disciplines approved by the State Council with the right to confer doctoral degrees. Journal of Clinical Urology was founded in 1998, approved by the Ministry of Personnel as a postdoctoral mobile station in 1994, and was awarded as a key discipline in Hubei Province in 2003. In 2002, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the first urology research institute in Central and South China, was established. There are five specialties such as general exocrine, neuroendocrine, urogenital tumor, exocrine of children and women, urological laparoscopy, and six centers such as kidney transplantation center, calculus center, endoscope center, urodynamics center, gastrointestinal motility center and experiment center of urology research institute. At present, there are 9 professors, 5 associate professors and 6 attending physicians in the urology department of Union Medical College Hospital, including 4 doctoral supervisors and 9 master supervisors.
