Abstract : The development of tourism depends on local environmental conditions. As a pillar industry of the tourism industry, the hotel industry's efforts to effectively protect the environment and rationally utilize resources are directly related to the healthy development of the tourism industry and affect the sustainable development of society. Therefore, the environmental management of hotels has been put on the agenda, and the creation of "green hotels" is an inevitable choice for modern hotels to take the road of sustainable development. By thinking about the achievements and existing problems of green hotels in China, we will explore and solve them. The approach to the problem provides inspiration to companies that are creating or are about to create "green hotels".

Keywords: Sustainable development of green hotels, energy conservation and environmental protection, problems and countermeasures

Foreword

With the advent of the green era, people have launched a series of pursuit of human rights. The "green movement" that is in harmony with nature has penetrated into all aspects and gradually set off a "green wave" around the world. "Green Hotel" was born under such "green wave". At present, there is no clear definition of "green hotel". One view is that green hotels refer to those hotels that provide products and services to tourists that meet the requirements of making full use of resources, protecting the ecological environment, and are harmless to the human body. The development of green hotels must be based on the affordability of the ecological environment and in line with local economic development conditions and moral concepts. Another view is that green hotels refer to taking a series of effective hard and soft measures with very little investment to minimize the impact of the hotel on the environment. At the same time, it saves energy and reduces consumption, reduces the operating costs of the hotel, and achieves environmental protection and Unification of hotel economic benefits. According to the perspective of sustainable development, the operation and development of green hotels should not only meet the needs of contemporary people, but also not cause harm to future generations. That is to say: the products provided by green hotels to society must fully utilize resources, protect the ecological environment and protect the ecological environment. Requirements that are harmless to human health. With the advent of the "green era", green hotels will have broad development prospects in the hotel industry and will be the mainstream of hotel development in the 2l century.

Chapter 1 The meaning of green hotel

The so-called green hotel (GreenHote1) refers to the concept of saving resources and protecting the environment in the process of hotel construction and operation and management, and focusing on energy saving. Reducing consumption and promoting environmental harmony are management behaviors to create a hotel with safer and healthier services for consumers. In April 2002, the "China Green Hotel Development Forum" held by the China Hotel Association in Beijing agreed that "green hotel" refers to applying the concepts of safety, health and environmental protection, adhering to green management, advocating green consumption, protecting the ecology and rational use The core of a resource hotel is to provide customers with "green guest rooms" and "green catering" that meet safety, health and environmental protection requirements, and to strengthen environmental protection and rational use of resources during the production and operation process.

The core of a green hotel is to provide customers with green guest rooms and green catering that are comfortable, safe, and conducive to human health requirements, and to strengthen environmental protection and rational use of resources during the production and operation process. The meaning of green hotel: The "green" of green hotel has three meanings: first, the service itself is green. That is to provide customers with green rooms and green catering that are comfortable, safe and meet human health requirements. Second, the items used during the service are green. All items used in the service are required to be safe and environmentally friendly. Third, during the operation and management process, attention should be paid to ecological protection and rational utilization of resources. In short, on the premise of ensuring service quality, we must try our best to save energy, reduce material consumption, and reduce pollution and waste emissions.

The guiding ideology of green hotels: take environmental friendliness as the concept, integrate environmentally friendly behaviors and environmental management into hotel operation and management, implement the purposes of environmental protection, conservation, health and safety, and adhere to green management and resource conservation , build hotels with green consumption, ecological environment protection and rational use of resources.

Chapter 2 The current development status of my country’s “green hotels”

2.1 The development of China’s green hotels is slow.

As of July 1, 2007, the total number of star-rated hotels in the country has exceeded 13,900. Since the National Tourism Administration released the "Green Tourism Hotel" industry standard, it has actively promoted the creation of green tourism hotels. Currently, there are nearly 1,800 green tourism hotels in 14 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. In terms of quantity, the increase is not fast. A large number of hotels Did not join the ranks of creating green hotels. Due to financial and technical limitations, the development process of green hotels has been restricted. Therefore, although China's green hotel operations have made a good start, overall, there is still no green management awareness, and traditional, non-sustainable business concepts and management methods still dominate.

2.2 The hotel’s awareness of environmental resource protection needs to be strengthened.

In recent years, many hotels in my country have gradually attached importance to implementing cleaner production according to environmental standards, and some have achieved good results. At the same time, we have also seen that environmental resource protection has not yet become a principle for all types of hotels. Many hotels have not established a correct concept of environmental resource protection. The energy utilization rate of some hotels has not reached the advanced level. For example, the equipment is not in economic operation; The control system is imperfect, causing the equipment to operate ineffectively; the equipment has low operating efficiency and cannot operate at full load, etc. The reason why some hotels join the ranks of creating green hotels is not really from the perspective of environmental protection, but only focuses on saving energy and reducing costs, thereby increasing the economic benefits of the hotel. To put it bluntly, they do not really consider it from the perspective of customers and environmental protection, but use the guise of "green" and "survival" to attract business that does not match the name.

2.3 The hotel’s approach simply causes implementation difficulties.

In June 2005, BTG Jianguo Management Group took the lead in issuing the "Green Hotel Action" call and announced that toothpaste, toothbrushes and razors would be eliminated from all guest rooms of its 13 star-rated hotels. Wait for the placement of disposable consumables. In July of the same year, the Beijing Tourism and Hotel Industry Association proposed that 141 star-rated hotels in Beijing stop supplying some disposable guest room supplies. However, not long after, the "six small items" were placed in the guest room again. It is understood that the reasons why these hotels "changed sides" and "six small items" have made a comeback are: first, guests complained because they could not get the service they deserve; second, some hotels originally expected to reduce expenses through this measure, but the effect was not good. Apparently, it even had the opposite effect. Hotel guests take it for granted that six small items are placed in hotel rooms because they have already paid for them and are inconvenient. The hotel canceled six small items out of wishful thinking, causing inconvenience to the guests. Moreover, the room rate was not reduced as a result, and the guests did not benefit from it.

2.4 The organizational structure is not implemented.

As a systematic project, "green creation" activities require the joint efforts of the government, industry organizations, the public, and hotels. No one aspect alone is enough. Since the implementation of green management in hotels in my country is still at a relatively early stage, the understanding of what green management is and how to implement it needs to be further improved and deepened. For example, some hotels think that they can catch up with the trend of green management by shouting a few environmental slogans, implementing certain green service and management standards, and hanging a "green" or "ecological" sign on a certain hotel. "Green management" has become an empty phrase.

Chapter 3 Misunderstandings and Problems in the Practice of Creating "Green Hotels"

3.1 The main purpose of creating "green hotels" is to carry out environmental protection work within the industry and achieve sustainability Development, but a truly environmentally friendly hotel is also a concept of development and change. It does not and cannot have absolute standards and models. Therefore, the creation of a "green hotel" is a starting point, not an end point. It should become the goal that hotels continue to pursue.

In the past few years, my country's hotel industry has had the following misunderstandings in the practice of creating "green hotels":

1. Environmental management is separated from daily management. Hotel management has its own management business. In the hotel's environmental management practice, environmental management is relatively difficult to integrate into the daily management of the hotel. The reason is that environmental management involves a lot of environmental protection scientific knowledge, and many hotel management Personnel generally lack knowledge in this area, including managers who implement training; on the other hand, integrating environmental management into daily management is a highly systematic task, and it is difficult for personnel who manage local tasks to handle highly systemic tasks. , and the performance appraisal of highly systematic work relies on the use of statistical technology. However, in many hotels, the use of statistical technology has always been a weak link in management. If the hotel's environmental management development research work cannot be integrated into the hotel's daily management, the effect of environmental management will be greatly affected. The separation of hotel environmental management and daily management is generally reflected in the following two aspects:

(1) Implement unfinished management. In the history of the development of environmental protection, it has gone through the stage of "end-of-pipe treatment", that is, the treatment of environmental pollution is carried out at the last stage of production. The biggest problem of this kind of treatment is that it cannot fundamentally solve the pollution control. It is just a transfer of pollutants, but the pollutants are not reduced. For enterprises, terminal management also increases the operating costs of the enterprise. Therefore, environmental management work is more about process control and reducing pollution during the production process. In actual management, hotels mostly adopt end-of-pipe management measures. Many hotels work around "green hotel" standards. Since many of the clauses in the standards are result-oriented, hotels directly control the results of operations and rarely conduct process analysis and control. For example, although a hotel has built a sewage treatment device, the sewage discharge still cannot meet the standards due to insufficient process control. A common cause of excessive discharge of sewage in hotels is excessive COD. This is caused by poor kitchen management, which causes a large amount of waste oil and food waste to enter the sewer. Therefore, this is a process discharge problem.

(2) Short-term behavior. In the creation of "green hotels", many hotels take environmental management as an activity in order to win the title of "green hotel" in the selection. Hotels often focus more human, financial and material resources on activities in a short period of time, have clear requirements and purposes, and focus on publicity among employees and the public. However, due to the special requirements of the activities on people, money and materials, the activities are not long-lasting. In the creation process of "green hotels", it did go through the "activity" stage. During this stage, many hotels focused more energy on environmental protection, but after that the work stopped and made The hotel's environmental performance returned to its original state, even lower than previous performance levels. This is because the hotel did not fully understand this work during the "activity" stage and did not incorporate environmental management work into daily management work. In this way, creating a "green hotel" became a burden for the hotel rather than a proactive behavior. Therefore, Not for long.

2. Environmental protection and quality management are separated. The environmental management and quality management of the hotel are inseparable

Environmental management is to meet the needs of the hotel and the public for environmental protection, so the object of management is the impact of the hotel on the external environment. Activities and behaviors that adversely affect the hotel, but because the hotel receives guests in its area and provides guests with a safe, healthy, and comfortable living space, the environmental quality inside the hotel is an important part of hotel environmental management, and the environmental quality inside the hotel is It is an important part of hotel product quality. Therefore, the hotel's environmental management and quality management are organically combined. The hotel's environmental management is based on the hotel's quality management. At present, some hotels ignore quality requirements when implementing environmental management. For example, in order to save energy, hotels reduce the illumination of indoor spaces, which affects the illumination requirements of guests staying in the hotel. In this way, the creation of "green hotels" cannot gain the support and recognition of consumers, which hinders the continued development of "green hotel" creation activities.

3. Natural environment protection and humanistic environment protection are separated

Environmental protection in a broad sense includes the protection of natural and humanistic environments. Especially in the tourism industry, the protection of humanistic environment is more important. The current environmental management work carried out by hotels mainly focuses on the damage caused to the natural environment during the operation of the hotel, and the protection of the human environment has not been paid attention to. The main reason is that the hotels participating in the creation of "Green Hotels" are all already built hotels. What is related to humanistic and environmental protection is the location and style of the hotel. Adjustments in these aspects are almost impossible for already built hotels in the short term. Impossible, so these aspects tend to be overlooked.
