Go to peace on the sixteenth day of the first month.
Every year on the 16th day of the first month, from early morning till late at night, there are few men and women in the city, and they all set off fireworks at Taiping Bridge in the eastern suburb of the county to pray for peace. This is the first folk custom of Quanjiao: Peace on the 16th day of the first month.
As a custom, "going to peace" was not recorded in several "Quanjiao County Records" in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and only the "Quanjiao County Records" published in the ninth year of the Republic of China (AD 1920) briefly described this grand occasion; But there are two kinds of views in society: "folklore" and "literati legend".
"Folklore": During the Jianwu period of the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-27), Liu Ping, a native of Pengcheng, was appointed as the director of Quanjiao (the official name at that time), and the funds allocated by his superiors for the construction of the city were reduced from 40 Li to 4 Li. The rest was used to help the victims, and he was removed from office. People were grateful for this and bid farewell to Taiping Bridge on the day he left. Since then, on this day every year, people have to walk on the bridge to show their memory.
Press: 1. There is no market for all peppers. In the thirty-eighth year of Jiaqing in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1559), the county magistrate Gu Kui built a city to prevent Japanese pirates. There are records in the county annals, inscriptions on the rostrum, and the existing Wu Memorial Hall; 2. Ping Liu was promoted from Quanjiao to Zong Zheng in the second grade, and Hanshu made a biography for him.
This legend is based on the view that people expect good officials and love honest officials.
Legend of Literati: According to the Ming and Qing Dynasties' Records of Quanjiao County, Ancient Achievements and Nanshan Smoke Pier, there is a smoke pier in Nanshan of Quanjiao (Quanjiao leads to Luzhou, and there are smoke piers in five miles and ten miles), which is called "Bifeng" and is very small in shape. In the early years of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1403), a warlock suggested that if Bifeng Peak was raised, it could be raised. County magistrate Wu Ying led a group of scholars to reclaim this land. There happened to be a military flag (official name) passing by here. He is from Hunan, and he mistook "Chu Juzi" for the master, that is, the emperor. He said that Quanjiao people were going to rebel, so he went back to Nanjing to play Jianwen Emperor. The emperor sent troops to clean the whole pepper, and the army marched along the river. It was windy for three days and it was impossible to cross the river. At this time, all the censors Chen Ying (Chuzhou people) have heard about it, but it is a mission. After Chen Ying's death, Quanjiao people wanted to bury his body in Gaoling near Taiping Bridge outside the East Gate.
The county annals only recorded this incident, but did not remember "going to peace" to commemorate this incident. Besides, Chen Ying is an unforgettable person, because he is a resident of the royal family. Later, he did many bad things and was finally executed by Emperor Yongle (see sword).
So what about "going to peace"?
Check the local records of Quanjiao County in Taichang. There is no such name as Taiping Bridge, only Bridge, which was named after He Ruobi's attack on Chen in Sui Dynasty. Only "He Zhu Bridge" is recorded as "Taiping Bridge" in Quanjiao County Records of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty. On the east and west sides of the bridge, there is a memorial arch with the titles "Rear Abdomen of Jianghuai" and "Wu Chu Irrigation Canal" respectively, which shows that this place is in front of the Yangtze River and Huaihe River, and it is the hub of communication between Wu Chu and China in ancient times.
During the Northern and Southern Dynasties (AD 420-), Liang Zonggu wrote the book Chronicle of Jingchu, which recorded the scenery story of Chu with Jingshan in Hubei as its capital. According to the book, the 16th day of the first month is a peaceful day for Chu Customs to travel, which is called "walking away from all diseases", and it is also based on the statement in Hanshu that "the world is peaceful, the grain is ripe" and "the day is peaceful". After the 16th day of the first month, the solar term "rain" has entered the spring ploughing season. Therefore, in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, in order to follow the customs of Chu, the "He Lu Bridge" was changed to "Taiping Bridge" so that people could visit and pray happily before the beginning of spring ploughing.
