Introduction to Chongqing Zhazidong
Zhazidong Concentration Camp:
It is at the foothills of Gele Mountain in Chongqing, 2.5 kilometers away from Bai Gongguan. Zhazidong was originally a small coal kiln on the outskirts of Chongqing. It got its name because there was a lot of slag but little coal. Zhazi Cave is surrounded by mountains on three sides and a ditch on one side, so its location is relatively hidden.
In 1939, the Kuomintang military agents forced the mine owner to death, occupied the coal mine, and set up a prison here. It is divided into inner and outer courtyards. The outer courtyard houses the spy office, torture room, etc. The 16 rooms on the first floor and bottom of the inner courtyard are men's prisons, and two bungalows are women's prisons.
Those imprisoned here include the "June 1st" mass arrest case, the "Little Chinese Revolution" case, the "Advance Report" case, and revolutionaries arrested after the failure of three armed uprisings in East Sichuan, such as Jiang Zhuyun, Xu Jianye, He Xuesong, etc., there were more than 300 people at most. "Little Luobotou" and their family also lived here.
On November 27, 1949, on the eve of their escape, Kuomintang agents planned a massacre that shocked China and the world. Only 15 people escaped.
Extended information
On October 1, 1949, when the news of the founding of New China reached Zhazidong and Baigongguan Prisons, the revolutionaries were ecstatic. More than 100 people including Luo Guangbin, Chen Ran, and Ding Diping, who were imprisoned in Baigongguan Prison, could not control their excitement. They made a red flag with a red sheet and several paper-cut five-pointed stars.
After the red flag was ready, it was hidden under the floor of the cell. On the eve of victory, except for Comrade Luo Guangbin, all other comrades died gloriously.
At 4 pm on November 27, the People's Liberation Army had liberated most of Sichuan, and the Kuomintang began to massacre the imprisoned people. When the enemy massacred the revolutionaries in Baigongguan Prison, three groups of people were taken from Zhazidong Prison and taken to the vicinity of Baigongguan to be shot. Late at night, the sound of gunfire from the People's Liberation Army could be vaguely heard.
At this time, there were still 19 revolutionaries imprisoned in Bai Gongguan and about 200 revolutionaries in Zhazidong. The executioner in Zhazidong asked for help from the executioner in Bai Gongguan. So the frantic executioners gathered in Zhazidong and locked all the men and women in the men's prison in eight rooms downstairs in the name of "immediate transfer and transfer." In the cell, machine guns and carbines were suddenly fired upon.
