Where is Beijing Tianqiao?

Beijing Tianqiao is located outside Zhengyangmen in the east of Xuanwu District, Beijing. In ancient times, it was the place where the emperor offered sacrifices to heaven at the Temple of Heaven and the Xiannongtan, so it was called Tianqiao. After many reconstructions, it was completely demolished on 1934, and the bridge site no longer exists. Later, it existed as a place name in Beijing.

The Qing Dynasty's "Guangxu Shuntian Mansion Records" recorded: "Yongdingmenwai Street, north of Zhengyangmenwai Street, Jingsan. There are bridges and overpasses. " Yi Shunding, a famous poet at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, wrote in "Tianqiao Qu": "Many wanderers beat drums on wine and don't remember their hometown", which shows the prosperity of Tianqiao at that time.

There used to be a white marble bridge. Under the bridge was a small river named Longxugou, which covered Zhengyangmen Street, crossed east and west zhushikou to the south, northwest of Tanmen Temple of Heaven and north of Yongdingmen, and then formed an overpass market with Beijing flavor.

Before liberation, many artists "threw the ground" near the overpass, that is, drew a white circle on the ground as a performance venue. At that time, juggling was a major feature of the Tianqiao market, with many projects and exquisite skills, such as bow-pulling, knife-lifting, diabolo-shaking, fork-dancing, playing the middle string and hard qigong.

Tianqiao district refers to the south of zhushikou, the north of Yongdingmen, the Temple of Heaven in the east and the Xiannongtan in the west. At that time, Tianqiao was the representative of civilian areas, where people could shop, watch acrobatic performances and taste some delicious food.
