Before 1990s, abacus calculation was always a content in the mathematics syllabus of primary schools in China, but it was cancelled in the Mathematics Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education promulgated by the Ministry of Education in 200 1. After all, now is the information age, and the calculation function of abacus has been replaced by calculators. Canceling abacus teaching can also reduce the burden on students.

Although abacus is no longer a part of mathematics teaching in primary schools, it has become a hobby for students to recruit interested students in the form of clubs. Moreover, there is an abacus mental arithmetic competition every year in Wujiang District, which proves that the status of abacus mental arithmetic is still valued. Because there are competitions and grade examinations, the school pays more attention to this part of teaching. Then, how to improve students' abacus ability in the usual club activities in a limited time is worth thinking by every teacher who teaches abacus. First, choosing the right textbook is the guarantee to teach abacus well.
Because abacus is not a teaching subject like mathematics, Chinese and English, there is no special abacus teaching book. It can be said that in the usual teaching, students basically rely on teachers to collect information to teach. This also leads to many classes without a systematic teaching, just some scattered splicing. In this kind of teaching, students can only have a general understanding of abacus, that is, using abacus to calculate, but its real function is very vague.
There are also various abacus teaching materials on the market, and the abacus teaching methods introduced in them are also varied. Faced with such a course without textbooks, teachers are always at a loss, and they don't know where to start or how to let students acquire abacus knowledge step by step.
Second, choosing a reasonable teaching method is the entry brick for students to learn abacus.
1. Try actively and experience the process.
It is important for students to learn to use abacus, but the teaching method of teachers is more important. If students can only dial abacus, but can't use it flexibly, it's no use even if they can. Just let the students know another calculation method. Therefore, students must correctly understand the significance of learning abacus. Every class needs the teacher's appropriate guidance, so that students can understand the connotation of learning these knowledge.
For example, when I teach "Full Five Plus", let the students try to dial the beads with an abacus first. Many students will find that the beads below are not enough after trying. At this time, some students will try to dial again, and these students will have better grades than other students in the learning process; But most students are full of doubts and don't know how to dial down. These students will listen carefully to the teacher's explanation later, and may not have such a deep understanding of the process. After this attempt, I asked my classmates to talk about how to dial. In fact, when they explain their ideas, they already contain the new knowledge to be taught in this course.
As the saying goes, "the process is more important than the result." Therefore, in the teaching process, I also try to let students experience the process by themselves. Only when you have really experienced it will you have a deep understanding of any knowledge you have.
2. Various ways to meet the demand.
No matter what course teaching is, a basic principle is to meet the psychological needs of students. Pupils should especially consider students' psychological characteristics. Pupils' attention is not easy to concentrate, and abacus calculation requires students' high concentration. In order to attract students, we can't just use a single teaching method in class. In the abacus class, it is basically a lot of practice, so we should often change the pattern to let them carry out abacus training. Such as: brainstorming, this way is that the teacher reports the topic, and the students use abacus to calculate the topic well, which can not only exercise the speed of abacus calculation, but also exercise their attention ability; Competing for answers, this way is preferred by students, because students can work out answers faster than others, and primary school students have this kind of psychological competition, so that students' enthusiasm will be fully exerted; Whirlwind challenge, this method is basically to hand out practice papers to see who has completed more questions in a given time and has a high correct rate.
Thirdly, creating a good classroom atmosphere is a good agent for students to keep their attention.
The quality of classroom atmosphere has always been the standard for teachers to evaluate the quality of a class. If a class has been in a relatively tense and inactive state, then the students' learning effect will not be as good as expected; If in a class, students can actively raise their hands to answer, the atmosphere is harmonious, and there is more interaction between teachers and students, both students and teachers will be more relaxed, happy physically and mentally, and the effect will be better. The abacus classroom also needs to reach this height, which can fully mobilize students' learning enthusiasm and let them actively participate in classroom learning tasks.
For example, when teaching abdication, I borrowed characters from fairy tales to enter the teaching of this class, which attracted students' attention at the beginning of the class and made their state better. The content of this class should be more difficult In order to make students easily remember the knowledge of this lesson, I use a magical formula to make students remember the matters needing attention when dialing abacus. Then, show the example of Prince's shopping, so that students can understand the use of abacus in life. In this process, students can basically enter the learning state.
In short, I believe that the prospect of abacus will be better and better. Of course, this requires the efforts of every abacus teacher. Every abacus teacher should take this course seriously. Although it is not compulsory, it can let students know about the great historical process of our country, and at the same time, it can also exercise and strengthen students' abilities in all aspects and promote their development in all aspects.
