The First World Mahjong Championship

The first World Mahjong Championship was hosted by the World Mahjong Organization and the World Mahjong Competition Center. The World Mahjong Organization is the first official competition after its establishment in 2005. 144 contestants from 17 countries and regions such as China, the United States, Japan, Germany and France signed up for the competition. Twenty-two world-renowned mahjong associations, including Oriental Tsinghua Peking University Team, Beijing-Tianjin-Shandong Joint Team, Japan Sparrow League and Japan Mahjong Association, participated in the team competition. The whole competition lasted for 9 rounds, and all the players were divided into four divisions: China, Japan, Europe and the United States for round robin. Finally, the ranking was decided according to the points of each round. There is no bonus in this competition. Players are graded according to "products", and different grades of products 1-9 are positioned according to card art and products.

Jiang, secretary general of the World Mahjong Organization, said that Mahjong originated in China, but it also belongs to the world. It is estimated that there are 500 million people in the world who like and participate in mahjong games. By judging the level with "quality", we hope to encourage the contestants to participate in the competition in a high-moral and high-level way, carry forward the Chinese national morality and improve their humanistic cultivation in the competition.

Li Li and Zhang of China won the championship and runner-up respectively, while Imagi of Japan won the third place. China Shanxi Jiexiu Team, China Shanghai Zhangjiang Team and Japanese Mahjong Association Osaka Team won the third place in the team competition respectively.
