The Scientific Research Institute of the State Grain Administration was developed on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of the Ministry of Grain and the Design Institute of the Ministry of Grain established in 1957, and it has been established for 50 years. At present, the Scientific Research Institute of the State Grain Administration is the only state-level public welfare scientific research institution in the grain industry.

The main research fields of the Scientific Research Institute of State Grain Administration include food chemistry, oil chemistry, food nutrition, grain and oil processing technology and equipment, complete engineering technology, circulation technology, storage and preservation technology, quality analysis and testing technology research, etc.

There are 3 administrative offices, 5 research rooms, 2 wholly state-owned technology enterprises, 1 property management company.

Over the past 50 years, the Scientific Research Institute of the State Grain Administration has done a lot of basic technical work for the establishment and development of the new China grain and oil processing, storage and transportation industrial system and product quality control system, ensuring the special requirements of the times to reduce grain and oil consumption and increase product output in the era of shortage economy, and undertaking technical assistance projects provided by the China government to Mali, Sudan, Viet Nam and other countries. In 1970s, it undertook the task of selecting and finalizing the national technology and equipment for rice milling, milling, oil making and storage, and did a lot of work for the standardization, serialization and generalization of domestic equipment.

Since the reform and opening up, the Scientific Research Institute of the State Grain Administration has devoted itself to serving the national food security and made important contributions to the scientific and technological progress of the national grain industry and the upgrading of industrial equipment and technology.

-More than 300 grain processing plants have been designed for 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, and 50 sets of new grain processing equipment have been developed; Design more than 30 vegetable oil processing and refining plants. -1998, in the construction of1000 billion Jin central reserve grain depot invested by the state with more than 30 billion yuan of treasury bonds, the institute has undertaken nearly a quarter of the design tasks of 180 treasury bonds. In the design of new grain depots, new technologies and equipment such as grain monitoring, mechanical ventilation, grain cooling and circulation fumigation are widely used, effectively ensuring the safety of central grain reserves. The standard drawing of the central reserve grain depot led by the institute won the gold medal in the standard design of the Ministry of Construction.

The office buildings, old laboratories and scientific research equipment built in 1950s and 1960s can no longer meet the needs of the new situation, and there is still a considerable gap in some aspects.

With the care and support of leaders at all levels, especially after many field visits by leaders of the State Grain Bureau, the new scientific research building of the institute was officially started in April 2004, and all the projects and debugging equipment were completed on June 27, 2006, and it passed the completion acceptance of Beijing Quality Inspection Station. It took two and a half years from groundbreaking to completion.

The new scientific research building is located atNo. 1 1, Baiwanzhuang Street, Xicheng District, with a total construction area of 29,445 square meters and a total building height of 45.3 meters, with 13 floors above ground and 2 floors underground. Its main functions are scientific research, office work, evaluation and meetings.

Compared with the old laboratory, the laboratory equipped in the new research building has greatly improved the conditions.

In the new laboratory, most instruments are at the advanced level in the world, which provides a good research platform and tools for the research work of the institute.

Advanced artificial climate chambers and artificial climate incubators can accurately control temperature, humidity, illumination, gas composition and concentration, and can simulate various meteorological conditions in nature, which can be applied to long-term observation and research of grain storage and various physiological and ecological indicators of insects. Now it is used in national social welfare research projects.

-S-3000N scanning electron microscope, with magnification ranging from 5 times to 300,000 times, can clearly distinguish the fine structures of grains, insects, etc. Now it is used to undertake research projects of the National Natural Fund.

-ion trap GC-MS is the latest generation of high-performance external ion trap GC-MS. It is mainly used for the analysis of harmful substances in cereals, oils and foods, such as pesticides and mycotoxins, especially for the analysis of samples in complex matrices.

The professional laboratory has reasonable configuration and wide professional scope, which can meet the needs of most directions of grain scientific research. It embodies the independence and intersection of disciplines and provides complete conditions for the scientific and technological innovation of the institute.

In the research pilot base in Changping District, a suburb of Beijing, the Institute has built nearly 20,000 square meters of pilot research laboratories for grain, oil and food processing, bioengineering, grain storage, food nutrition and safety.

At present, the national science and technology projects undertaken and participated by the laboratories of the Institute include the National Natural Science Foundation Project, the "863" Plan, the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and so on 17, which is one of the most fulfilling scientific research projects undertaken by the Institute since its establishment.

At the same time, the institute has also carried out a number of horizontal scientific research projects for local grain departments and enterprises, which has effectively promoted the development of science and technology in the industry.
