What is steel slag water quenching method?

Since 1974, Nippon Steel Corporation of Japan has adopted the shallow dish (ISC dish) water quenching method (see figure) to treat converter slag. The treatment method is to pour liquid steel slag into a shallow tray, the thickness of slag layer is about 10 cm, spray water to cool it to about 500℃, pour it into a slag carrier after solidification, spray water again to cool it to about 200℃, and then pour it into a slag soaking pool to cool it to normal temperature. Most of the treated slag particles are below 10 cm. Compared with the hydraulic slag flushing method, this method has the advantages of saving treatment site, safe operation, fast turnover, less investment, less equipment and less environmental pollution.
