In order to find out the reason of "unclear Qinghe River", several members of our biotechnology team, led by the team leader, went to the Qinghe River.

We were greeted by a foul smell. The Qinghe River has become a stinking ditch. The water is black, so the large pieces of white foam floating on the water surface are disgusting at first sight. The water here, with a very slow flow, is very quiet and suffocating. People can't help but think of Mr. Wen Yiduo's masterpiece "Dead Water". This is the significance of famous works, which not only foresees environmental problems decades later, but also describes them word for word. After careful search, we were surprised to find that some creatures (according to the test, water fleas) swimming under the yellow grass leaves can be seen in some very small areas on the shore. The little guys are cute, but they are huge, and the place where they look up is dense. You can see that they look like fish worms when they are put into test tubes. Perhaps it is because pollution limits the number of fish that these small creatures can multiply in large numbers.

Climb high and look out: A dilapidated brand "Phosphate Fertilizer Plant" stands proudly on the road in the north; The machinery in the fertilizer plant in the west looks like a giant; The most terrible thing is the paper mill in the east. Thick black smoke is rolling out of the chimney and spreading around at will. The factory building under the chimney looks shabby and messy. Outside the factory building, the trees on the river bank have long been yellow and withered, which makes people feel the sadness of the end of life.

We found a small sewage outlet with a diameter of about one meter on the shore, which is not surprising, because a minute later, we immediately found a sewage outlet with a radius of about two meters on the other side of the bridge. A large number of gray substances and white foam churned out from the bottom of the river and spread out constantly, forming a white foam area with a length of 7 meters and a width of about 15 meters, which continued to extend. Around the sewage outlet, we found that the vegetation here is yellow, and the reason remains to be investigated. After a burst of indignation at what we saw, we went to visit an old man living in a cowshed on the bank of Qinghe River. The old man looks very old and poor. He seems very excited about our arrival. The old man told us that the source of this river is the craggy mountain in Sanyuan. Originally, the water source was abundant and the river was deep, but years of soil erosion made the silt at the bottom of the river silted up three or four feet deep. During the Cultural Revolution in the 196s and 197s, this water was the lifeblood of farmers, and bathing, eating, watering and washing all depended on it. At that time, there were large reeds at the water's edge (but now it's just a piece of depressed yellow grass! ）。 Pollution has been serious in recent years, and in summer, mosquitoes growing in sewage are frightening. The paper mill on the east bank of the river is the main pollution source. The province has repeatedly asked it to close down, but it has always been repeatedly banned. After closing for a few days, it opened again. After the closure of the paper mill, there were fish in the Qinghe River, and some people came to fish specially.

In order to deeply investigate the pollution situation of Qinghe River, we sampled and analyzed the river water. After testing by the Environmental Protection Bureau, the oxygen content in the water was 1/3 of the standard value and the PH value was 8.3. The main organism in the water is Daphnia, and we have observed and studied Daphnia.

Daphnia belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, which includes Branchial Subdivision, Crustacea and Branchial Subdivision. Body segmentation, appendage segmentation and nerve senses are concentrated in the head; Daphnia is small in size, produces fresh water, has flat gills at the base of appendages, molts and has strong adaptability, and feeds on small microorganisms and algae in water.

The following is our observation record of Daphnia:

The first day: water temperature: 18℃, size: 2 ~ 3mm, number: 6, and 4 of them have black particles on their backs.

the next day: the water temperature was 16℃, and it was found that there was shed skin in the bottle, like a pod, with the back connected and the abdomen cracked.

on the third day: the water temperature was 2℃, and the black particles on the back of four of them became indistinguishable, and they were arranged next to each other, and the color of their faces

changed slightly and were not spherical. At night, one of them began to give birth. Observe carefully that its tail is tilted forward, and its young son comes out from the gap between its tail and back. As soon as it is born, it can swim.

Day 4: Water temperature: 14℃. All the water fleas with eggs on their backs have been laid, and there are more than 3 newborn fleas. Two mature Daphnia died.

the fifth day: the water temperature: 18℃, and all the mature Daphnia died.

Observation summary:

(1) Proper temperature can accelerate the growth and reproduction of Daphnia. (The water temperature is 4℃, and most of the Daphnia still carries eggs on its back; The indoor temperature was 18℃, and all the Daphnia were produced. )

In this ecosystem, the water quality deteriorated due to the serious discharge from paper mills, and a large number of fish died, which led to the explosive reproduction of Daphnia, which directly affected the number of microorganisms and algae in the water and greatly reduced the self-purification ability of the river.

As a result of a large number of fish deaths, the food sources of waterfowl were destroyed, and they could not continue to survive; As a result, mosquitoes multiply and bring many diseases to human beings, such as malaria.

Exploratory experiment on the life of Daphnia

Experiment 1: During the day, put half the bottles in the sun and the other half in the shade, and all six bottles will be in the shade. At night, half of them are placed under the desk lamp and the other half are placed in the shade, so all six of them gather under the light.

conclusion: Daphnia is sensitive to light intensity and likes moderate light.

Experiment 2: Take a drop of river water cultured in a test tube and observe it under a microscope. There are about 9-1 microorganisms in a drop of water. Put 3 Daphnia into the test tube, and after 6 hours, take a drop and observe it again. The microorganisms are obviously reduced, leaving only 2-3.

Conclusion: Microorganisms are the food of Daphnia.

Experiment 3: Drop a few drops of gray-black river sewage into the bottle and let it stand. After a night, the color of the water faded, and the intestine of Daphnia was gray-black. After a few hours, the intestinal color returned to normal.

conclusion: Daphnia absorbs inorganic salts or minerals.

The experiment shows that Daphnia can adapt to the sewage environment and purify the sewage to some extent.

There is no doubt that the environmental problem has become a big problem related to human survival, and everyone can't escape. Therefore, we investigated the pollution of Qinghe River. In order to see the big from the small and the whole from the part, so as to further understand the present environmental situation of China.
