During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China vigorously developed Chinese medicine health services for the elderly.

The National Health and Wellness Commission and other 15 departments recently jointly issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for Healthy Aging". The plan puts forward nine main tasks, one of which is to develop Chinese medicine health services for the elderly.

Regarding the health management of Chinese medicine for the elderly, the plan proposes to give full play to the unique advantages of Chinese medicine health management in implementing basic public health services and actively promote the health management services of Chinese medicine for the elderly; Encourage Chinese medicine doctors to actively participate in family doctor contract service and provide personalized Chinese medicine services for the elderly; Strengthen health care behavior intervention and health guidance for the elderly.

In the promotion of Chinese medicine health care and old-age culture, the plan proposes to actively publicize the knowledge, technology and methods of Chinese medicine health care suitable for the elderly, and promote high-quality Chinese medicine services into communities, rural areas and families. Actively carry out traditional Chinese medicine physical examination, health assessment, health intervention and medicated diet and other popular science activities, and promote traditional Chinese medicine movements such as Tai Ji Chuan, Baduanjin and Wuqinxi.

It is clearly planned that by 2025, the standardized health management service rate of the elderly aged 65 and above in urban and rural communities will reach over 65%, the health management rate of traditional Chinese medicine for the elderly aged 65 and above will reach over 75%, and the proportion of rehabilitation (medicine) departments in tertiary Chinese medicine hospitals will reach over 85%.
