Huawei completed the world's first 5G millimeter wave test, downloading 5.2G per second.
According to reports, this test is to aggregate 5G high-frequency and low-frequency spectrum, and at the same time give full play to the advantages of large high-frequency bandwidth and good low-frequency coverage, thus ensuring the continuous high-rate experience of 5G users, which is the mainstream technical direction of 5G high-frequency and low-frequency collaboration.
The future construction focus of 5G will shift to millimeter wave.
At present, China has issued 5G medium and low frequency licenses to the four major operators, that is, the frequency band below 6GHz, but the high frequency band (that is, millimeter wave) is being tested.
Millimeter wave refers to the wavelength from 1 millimeter wave to1millimeter wave. Compared with the 5G system in the frequency band below 6GHz, 5G millimeter wave has three characteristics: ultra-large bandwidth, ultra-low delay and ultra-large user capacity. Millimeter wave can provide broadband, larger capacity and higher performance 5G services in hot spots, and can be widely used in smart factories, smart parks and smart docks. Millimeter wave has the advantage of large bandwidth, and will be combined with downstream applications such as high-definition video, AR/VR, industrial Internet and car networking in the future, with a broader prospect.
In the initial stage of 5G construction, the mainstream adopted the low-frequency scheme below 6GHz, which can rapidly expand the scope of 5G network and promote the promotion of 5G penetration rate. With the development of high-capacity, high-speed and low-delay services, the communication frequency band will inevitably extend to millimeter waves. With the combination of low frequency and millimeter wave, the construction focus will shift to millimeter wave 5G.
The commercialization of millimeter wave technology is approaching.
Last September, after full discussion, domestic operators, mainstream equipment manufacturers and terminal manufacturers reached an agreement on the application standard of millimeter wave single carrier bandwidth: millimeter wave and base station terminals must support 200MHz carrier bandwidth, and encourage base stations to speed up the research and development of 400MHz carrier bandwidth.
Since the beginning of this year, 5G millimeter wave technology has made continuous progress. In March, the National Cross-country Ski Center of Beijing Winter Olympics has covered 5G millimeter wave, and manufacturers such as China Unicom (4.320, 0.06, 1.4 1%) and OPPO have also completed the 5G millimeter wave test, and obtained an ultra-high download rate of 4.3Gbps. In the future, the Winter Olympics may be able to watch the live broadcast from multiple angles without delay.
In May, ZTE (33.700, -0.23, -0.68%), China Unicom and Qualcomm successfully completed the world's first 8K video backhaul service with large uplink frame structure of 5G millimeter wave. In May, Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 launched new millimeter wave functions, including supporting millimeter wave carrier bandwidth up to 200MHz and supporting millimeter wave independent networking mode. In July, Qualcomm announced the completion of the world's first 5G millimeter wave data connection supporting 200MHz carrier bandwidth.
In August, Qualcomm Technology Company and ZTE successfully demonstrated the important functions needed to deploy 5G millimeter wave in China. At the service trade fair held in September, 5G millimeter wave technology became one of the highlights of the Qualcomm exhibition, which showed the latest progress of 5G millimeter wave testing between Qualcomm and ZTE.
China is promoting the industrialization of 5G millimeter wave.
The latest data shows that the United States, Japan, Europe and Southeast Asia have deployed 5G millimeter-wave networks and services, and 130 operators around the world are investing in 5G millimeter-wave technology.
Domestically, at the 20021National Conference on Industry and Information Technology, Xiao Yaqing, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the frequency planning of 5G millimeter wave in some frequency bands would be released in due course.
At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that in 20021year, it will continue to organize and carry out 5G millimeter wave experiments, take precautions and develop the future system layout industry. In April, the exposure draft of "Action Plan for the Sailing of 5G Applications (202 1-2023)" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also proposed to organize the research and development and end-to-end testing of 5G millimeter-wave base stations, accelerate the maturity of technologies and products, and lay an industrial foundation for the commercialization of 5G millimeter waves.
