When radio and television have become popular in many rural areas, do almost identical slogans still have a reason to exist? Is it time to change the content and form of slogans?

Among the common slogans in rural areas, those related to family planning account for the vast majority. Jiang Xiaoping, Party Committee Secretary of Hedong Township, Anxi County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, said that at least 80% of rural slogans are related to family planning, but according to statistics from the township in the past 10 years, rural areas have maintained a low fertility level for a long time. As a basic national policy, family planning has long been known to farmers after so many years of propaganda. Propaganda in the form of slogans no longer has much effect.

But Jiang Xiaoping said helplessly that in the current assessment of township work, family planning is vetoed with one vote. Whether the family planning work is done well or not is not enough only with good results. The number of slogans is also assessed. Indicators, superiors stipulate that a village group must have at least four or five slogans. Hedong Township has only 4 administrative villages and 15 villager groups. Last year, the township's fiscal revenue was only 2.27 million yuan. There was little left after paying the salaries of staff and teachers, but at least two to three thousand yuan was spent on slogans every year.

In addition to content related to family planning, rural slogans also include other slogans promoting national policies and legal knowledge. In addition, all kinds of advertisements can be seen everywhere on the walls of farmhouses.

Jiang Xiaoping said that the central government has put forward five major requirements for the new socialist countryside: "production development, affluent life, civilized rural customs, clean and tidy village appearance, and democratic management." Rural slogans have the greatest relationship with "neat and tidy village appearance", but shoddy and disorderly management of rural slogans has become a major obstacle to the appearance of villages.

It is understood that the reason why some rural slogans have been criticized is that in addition to formal factors, their content is outdated, blunt and even discriminatory, which cannot be ignored.

“Produce seeds in accordance with the law and strengthen management”, “Implement highway regulations and stop illegal activities”, “Severely crack down on ×× crimes”… In Anxi, Yumen, Zhangye and other places, such blunt slogans You can see them everywhere, but few make people feel friendly and easy-going.

Some slogans contain implicit discriminatory content, which hurts the self-esteem of many farmers. Zhu Jie, 42, of Nanba Village, Suoyang Town, Anxi County, said, "In fact, there are only a small number of people who commit crimes, but slogans like 'illegal logging and illegal logging will be punished for violating national laws' and 'optical cables do not contain copper, and theft is punishable'. It's all common sense, and everyone knows it. But this kind of slogan gives people the impression that farmers have no legal knowledge at all, and it seems that we are too backward.
