The Academy of Longjiang Academy and the Chinese Revolution

"Longjiang Academy" is the cradle of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's military and political academies. It has trained a large number of outstanding military and political talents for the workers' and peasants' armed separatist struggle on the Hunan-Jiangxi border.

In 1927, the Communist Party of China launched and led a series of armed uprisings in Nanchang, Autumn Harvest, and Guangzhou, which opened the prelude to armed resistance against the Kuomintang reactionaries, and the People's Army was born. In October, Mao Zedong led the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops into Jinggangshan. In mid-November of that year, Mao Zedong instructed the establishment of the first border Red Army training team (i.e., the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army Officer Training Team) at Longjiang Academy to train lower-level army officers and local armed cadres. The trainees of the training team are composed of workers and peasants selected from border counties and cadres from the army. Among them, there are more than 60 workers and peasants selected from Ninggang, Yongxin, Lianhua and other counties, and more than 30 grassroots officers of the workers' and peasants' revolutionary army. There were more than 100 students in the first batch, and the teaching team was led by Lu Chi. Yuan Yanfei and Huang Tianhua serve as full-time instructors. It is divided into four district teams, and each district team has three classes. Chen Bojun, Chen Shiju, Zhang Lingbin, and Wang Liang serve as district team leaders and instructors respectively. Mao Zedong himself served as a part-time teacher. The picture below is an oil painting of Comrade Mao giving a class to the students. This training team was originally planned to last for three months, but due to the development of the struggle situation, it only lasted for more than two months, that is, it ended after the Xincheng battle. After the trainees returned to various places, they actively participated in various struggles in the base areas and played a great role in the development of the workers' and peasants' armed separatist regimes in the borders. To this day, two slogans written by students back then are still preserved on the wall of the front building of the academy. The first congress of the Fourth Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army (later known as the Fourth Red Army) was held in the "Mingdao Hall" in the middle hall of Longjiang Academy. At the end of April 1928, after the Zhuge Liang and Maoist armies successfully joined forces, in order to strengthen the unified leadership and command of the two revolutionary armed forces, the first congress of the Fourth Army Party was held. More than 100 cadres above company level attended the meeting. Comrades Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Wang Erzhuo and other people spoke. The meeting decided: 1. In accordance with the instructions of the Shonan Special Committee on "Combining the Zhu and Mao Departments", the Fourth Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army (later known as the Fourth Red Army) was established, and cadres above the company level were appointed. 2. Establish party representative and soldier committees at all levels in the fourth army. 3. The Military Commission of the Fourth Army was elected, with Mao Zedong as secretary. 4. On May 4, a meeting was held to celebrate the rendezvous between the two armies, and the establishment of the Fourth Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army was officially announced.
