There are 400 basic atonal syllables commonly used in Putonghua, including 1300 tone syllables besides light tone. In terms of syllables, all syllables of Putonghua belong to four basic tone values. These four basic tone values are: flat tone, rising tone, rising tone and falling tone, in which flat tone and rising tone are flat tone, rising tone and falling tone are boring tone.
