The stopped escalator is not allowed to go. The steps or pedals of the escalator are connected in a circle and run circularly. ① Escalators are not considered as stairs when they are designed and manufactured. "Safety Code for Manufacture and Installation of Escalators and Moving Sidewalks" (GB16899-2011) clearly stipulates that "Escalators are machines, and they cannot be used as fixed stairs even when they are not running".

Therefore, whether the escalator is running or not, passengers can't use it as a staircase, especially when it is not running, and it can't be used as a fixed staircase.

② Escalators are not allowed to be used as stairs in architectural design. "General Principles for Design of Civil Buildings" (GB 50352-2005) stipulates that "escalators and moving sidewalks should not be counted as safety exits", that is, buildings with escalators should still be equipped with evacuation stairs according to fire protection specifications, and there is no situation that escalators go up and down stairs without stairs after they stop running.

③ Escalators are steeper, narrower and higher than stairs, and are not suitable for walking. When the continuous stair steps exceed 18, a rest platform shall be set. However, escalators are usually more than 20 steps in a row. If it is used as stairs, it does not meet the design requirements of stairs, and there will be hidden dangers, especially for people carrying heavy objects. Moreover, the escalator steps are generally provided with grooves, which will cause optical illusion, and it is easy to fall and get injured by stepping on the wrong steps when walking on them.
