Can Koreans understand Chinese?

Koreans generally can't read Chinese, but it doesn't mean that they don't know anything. Some people can communicate simply. Many hotels, homestays, shopping malls, restaurants and other places in Korea, especially tourist areas and duty-free shops, have Chinese services or Chinese shopping guides, so you can have basic communication in these places even if you don't know Korean. In addition, although Korean and Chinese are two different languages, 6~7% of words in Korean belong to Chinese characters, which may be helpful for Koreans to understand and learn Chinese. However, this does not mean that Koreans can directly understand Chinese, because Chinese grammar, pronunciation and writing system are very different from Korean. Generally speaking, although some Koreans may be able to understand simple Chinese, most Koreans still don't understand Chinese. If you need to communicate in Chinese in Korea, you'd better find a place where you can provide Chinese services or use translation software to communicate.
