The Historical Evolution of Shaolin Dragon Boxing

At that time, Jue Yuan, a monk from Songshan Shaolin Temple, left the temple for a trip with the consent of Master Huan Wen, hoping to visit the world martial arts masters and learn from them, so as to improve and develop Shaolin Wushu. In Lanzhou, monk Jue Yuan met the martial arts master Li Sou. A few days later, Li Sou recommended his friend Bai Yufeng to the monk in Jue Yuan. They went to Luoyang together and found Bai Yufeng who lives in Luoyang. Subsequently, Jue Yuan monk, Bai Yufeng, and Li Sou and his son returned to Songshan Shaolin Temple. Four people exchanged what they learned in the temple. Bai Yufeng, in particular, unreservedly passed on what he had learned all his life to monks in Jue Yuan and other monasteries. Bai Yufeng, together with monk Jue Yuan, systematically sorted out hundreds of boxing techniques in Shaolin Temple. Monks in Jue Yuan developed the treasure of Shaolin Temple-eighteen-handed arhats, from the initial eighteen-handed arhats to seventy-second-hand arhats, and then to 173-handed arhats, which became famous all over the world. Bai Yufeng, with the help of Jue Yuan monk, combined with his own martial arts experience, wrote a book "Five Boxing Essentials". Bai Yufeng believes that a person's body, essence, strength, qi, bone and spirit must practice with each other, and martial arts can reach a state of advanced deification. To this end, he founded five boxing, pointing out that "dragon boxing practices spirit, tiger boxing practices bones and muscles, leopard boxing practices strength, snake boxing practices spirit and crane boxing practices essence", and systematically expounded the different characteristics and practices of Shaolin dragon boxing, tiger boxing, leopard boxing, snake boxing and crane boxing. Bai Yufeng later converted to Shaolin Temple as a monk, and his name was Qiuyue. To commemorate the contribution of Jue Yuan and Qiuyue to the revival of Shaolin Wushu, the later monks of Shaolin Temple honored them as "Master Jue Yuan" and "Qiuyue Zen Master" respectively.

According to the relevant information handed down from ancient times, the Dragon Boxing created by Zen master Qiuyue has simple strokes and pays attention to internal cultivation, which truly embodies the characteristics of "Dragon Boxing Training God". Of course, this may be due to the Zen master Qiuyue's mastery of Qigong.
