The living conditions in the prison camp of Jochey Island are very difficult. Every 50 prisoners of war are crowded into a military tent. A shallow ditch was dug in the middle of the tent, and there were a row of straw bags on both sides, which could not prevent moisture at all.

The prison camp is crowded and sultry in summer and cold and humid in winter, so it is impossible to sleep. In winter, prisoners of war sleep on the ground, and the only thing to keep out the cold is a worn quilt for everyone.

The food provided by the American prison camp management to prisoners of war is barley and a small amount of peas and broken rice, or wheat and barley flour.

Most of them are moldy, some are not peeled off and mixed with sand. The cabbage is rotten, the radish is old and empty, the dried fish fillets are full of bugs, and there are always many bugs in the dishes eaten by prisoners of war. Even under such conditions, prisoners of war are still hungry for a long time. All prisoners of war can only eat half a bowl of rice every meal, and moldy wheat balls can only eat eggs a little bigger, so they are not full at all.

The food provided by the US military for the POW camp is mainly unpolished barley, wheat grains or very rough and moldy barley flour.

The US military once claimed to provide one pound of food per person per day, but after layers of exploitation and deduction, the actual supply simply failed to reach this figure.

There are two meals a day in the prison camp. Each meal has only a fist-sized rice ball or half a bowl of "barley rice" and a bowl of clear soup with several leaves and several oil stars. Only when you are extremely lucky can you meet a few squid or beef. The U.S. military often uses fasting as a punishment for "disobeying the orders of the authorities", so the captured people are in a state of semi-starvation for a long time.

The prisoner of war "hospital" set up by the US military in the Qiaoqi Island prisoner of war camp is also a hastily built tent surrounded by layers of barbed wire.

"Hospital" has neither the necessary medical facilities and staffing, nor the necessary drug supply. Some American doctors even conducted experiments on wounded prisoners of war, making some people who could have recovered disabled or died inexplicably. This perennial hunger and cold days, coupled with the lack of medical conditions, failed to get timely diagnosis and treatment of diseases, which eventually led to a high number of abnormal deaths in the prison camp of Juji Island.

On Jody Island, more than 20,000 volunteer prisoners of war are mostly held in the 7 1, 72 and 86 camps. In order to instill ideology in prisoners of war, Americans brainwashed prisoners of war. The American army sent priests to preach to volunteer prisoners of war, but without success.

Prisoners of war are not only hungry for a long time, but also unable to get enough water to drink. There are more than 5,000 prisoners of Chinese people's Volunteer Army in Camp 602 of Chochi Island. Only a faucet with a diameter of 2 cm is installed, and water is released for only two hours every day. After 8 o'clock in the morning, the US military turned off the water pipe.

Cooking is very difficult because there is less water and more people. The amount of water is small, and the cooked rice is often half cooked; Vegetables can't be washed, so they can only be thrown into the pot with the soil. As for drinking water, it is even more difficult.

There is a bucket under the faucet of the 72nd Squadron and the 86th Squadron of Juji Island. Prisoners of war have to queue up for water in turn, and each person can only get a small bowl of water every day. Prisoners of war are thirsty, so they can only drink dirty water in sewage ditches, or take a sip of seawater despite the beating of American troops when doing heavy work.

Due to the lack of water in the prison camp, there are many lice and scorpions on the clothes, blankets and hair of prisoners of war. The sanitary conditions are quite bad, and various diseases prevail in the prison camp, which seriously damages the health of prisoners of war.

Prisoners of war live in tents or iron sheds, where there are no lights, and it is dark and damp. A tent is about10m long and 5m wide. Generally, it can accommodate 50 to 80 people, and the sleeping width of each person is 15 cm to 20 cm. Prisoners of war can only sleep on their sides, bumping and falling, and they are so crowded that they can't turn over.

The clothes and personal belongings of each prisoner of war were looted by the US and South Korean troops when they were captured, and the prisoners of war did not have enough warm clothes.

1951July, the U.S. military prison camp administration in Jochey Island issued red and yellow short-sleeved T-shirts and shorts to prisoners, each with only one set. Many people wear such thin clothes for winter. Prisoners of war shivered with cold, and many prisoners' hands and feet were red, swollen, cracked and even yellow with cold. Even so, nobody cares.

Under the franchise of the US military, American and Chiang Kai-shek spies and traitors in the volunteer army set up a paramilitary "prisoner of war guard" in the prison camp.

They forced reactionary slogans and patterns to be tattooed on the chests and arms of volunteers' prisoners of war, and in the name of "maintaining order and preventing riots", they tortured volunteers' prisoners of war who refused to accept "reform", crawling, kneeling, hanging them, pouring pepper water into their anus, stuffing them naked into petrol cans filled with broken glass, and even taking out their hearts. This kind of white terror control was implemented for the first time in the No.72 POW camp of the Volunteers, but it was publicly called "model POW camp" by the US military.
