Aksu City is located on the northwest edge of the Taklimakan Desert and the upper reaches of the Tarim River. It is named after the water, which means "White Water City" in Uyghur. In ancient times, Gumo and Wensu were the territories of the Thirty-Six Kingdoms in the Western Regions during the Qin and Han Dynasties.
