We say more object complements than subject complements.

But the two reasons are the same.

Pink obviously decorated the "wardrobe" instead of "he" or "painting"

At this time, the modified object is the object complement.

Predicate is actually a part of the main family table structure.

The composition of this structure

It is subject+copula+predicate.

Because the copula is basically a be verb plus some sensory verbs, and the predicates are mainly nouns and adjectives.

Therefore, it is obvious that the predicate modifies the subject.

Give a few examples.

I am a student. I am a student. Students are predicative and explain the subject at the same time.

It smells bad, it smells bad, and it actually shows the nature of the theme.

So we will think that the predicative must be the subject complement.

But besides, there are many forms of subject complement.

The most prominent is the passive voice.

Because the passive voice is transformed from the active voice, the part that originally modified the object plays the role of modifying the subject in the passive voice. For example, in the last sentence, he painted the closet pink.

The wardrobe that can be exchanged was painted pink by him.

This pink painting still adorns the wardrobe, but at this time the wardrobe has become the theme, and correspondingly pink has changed her position.

Another example.

The girl in white is my sister.

At this moment

Wearing white clothes to modify the subject is also the subject complement.

Therefore, it cannot be said that the subject complement must be predicative.
