Entering the new era of science and technology in the 21st century, people's health awareness has increased unprecedentedly, and the new concept of "having good health can have everything" is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Therefore, sleep problems have attracted the attention of the international community. According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization on 25,916 patients in primary care in 14 countries and 15 regions, it was found that 27% of people had sleep problems. It is reported that the incidence of insomnia in the United States is as high as 32-50%, and in the United Kingdom 10-14 %, 20% in Japan, 30% in France, and more than 30% in my country. 50% of students suffer from sleep deprivation. Sleep disorders have a great negative impact on quality of life, but a considerable number of patients do not receive reasonable diagnosis and treatment. Sleep disorders have now become a prominent problem threatening the public around the world.

In order to raise public awareness of the importance of sleep, in 2001, the Global Sleep and Health Program sponsored by the International Foundation for Mental Health and Neuroscience launched a global campaign to celebrate the first day of the spring every year. Today - March 21st is designated as "World Sleep Day". The campaign focuses on drawing attention to the importance and quality of sleep. The reason why "World Sleep Day" is set on the first day of early spring every year is because the periodicity of seasonal changes and the day-night cycle of sleep are closely related to our daily lives. In 2003, the China Sleep Research Association officially introduced "World Sleep Day" to China.

Sleep occupies one-third of our lives. According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization on more than 20,000 primary care patients in 15 bases in 14 countries, it was found that 27% of people had sleep problems. Insomnia has a great negative impact on the quality of life, but a considerable number of patients do not receive reasonable diagnosis and treatment.

Adequate sleep, a balanced diet and appropriate exercise are three health standards recognized by the international community. But there is a general lack of awareness of the importance of sleep.

According to the latest sleep survey results released by the Chinese Sleep Research Association, the incidence of insomnia among Chinese adults is 38.2%, which is higher than the incidence of insomnia in developed countries. Medical research shows that occasional insomnia can cause fatigue and lack of coordination the next day, while long-term insomnia can lead to consequences such as inability to concentrate, memory impairment, and inability to work as expected.

In addition, insomnia is closely related to physical diseases. Lack of sleep will reduce the body's immunity, reduce the ability to resist and recover from diseases, make it easier to catch colds, aggravate other diseases or induce the onset of existing diseases, such as cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, hypertension and other diseases. Practice has also proven that if patients do not sleep well after surgery, the wound healing time will be significantly prolonged. Severe sleep deprivation in children can affect their physical development. Because during sleep, especially in deep sleep, children's brains secrete the most growth hormone, which is the main substance that promotes bone growth in children.

When talking about World Sleep Day, we have to mention this group - the China Sleep Research Association. It is this group that promotes the series of theme activities of World Sleep Day in our country. This organization is affiliated with the China Association for Science and Technology and is the most authoritative professional organization in the field of sleep technology in my country and a national first-level social group. The Chinese Sleep Research Association has been committed to promoting the development of sleep medicine and sleep technology, guiding sleep consumer demand, and promoting the overall progress of the sleep industry. "Scientific sleep consumption" has been officially designated as one of the themes of China's World Sleep Day in 2007 by the China Sleep Research Association. In 2007, the Research Association launched the China Healthy Sleep Promotion Project with the support of the China Association for Science and Technology.

In general, "World Sleep Day" is to draw the world's attention to all people who have trouble sleeping. According to a World Health Organization survey of 25,916 patients in primary care in 14 countries, it was found that 27% of people had sleep problems, and a considerable number of them did not receive reasonable diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of "World Sleep Day" is to draw people's attention to the importance of sleep and sleep quality, and to remind us to pay attention to sleep health and quality. Paying attention to the quality of sleep means paying attention to the quality of life, and paying attention to sleep means paying attention to health.
