3. The highly competitive 1990s

Four people won the first prize in the Southwest Division Yunnan Physics Olympiad for the first time. In 2003, not only did three people win the first prize in the Olympiad, but they also ranked first, second, and fourth among individuals in the province. One person from Yun Normal University was third, and one person from Qujing No. 1 Middle School was fifth. Wei Yizhong represented Yunnan in the National Physics Olympiad. From 2002 to 2005, there were three Tsinghua universities, and then there was an eight-year interval between which no one took the top spot.

In 2009, high school education declined significantly, and students began to study abroad on a large scale.
