Nanjing Massacre English Introduction Nanjing Massacre

The Nanjing Massacre, commonly known as the Nanjing Massacre, was a notorious war crime committed by the Japanese military after Nanjing (then the capital of the Republic of China) fell into the hands of the Japanese imperial army on1February 13 (1937). The duration of the massacre was not clearly defined, although the violence continued for the next six weeks until early February. Japanese officials lied about the number of civilian deaths and still refuse to disclose them properly. During the occupation of Nanjing, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, robbery, arson and execution of prisoners of war and civilians. The execution began under the pretext of destroying China soldiers disguised as civilians, and a large number of innocent people were deliberately mistaken for enemy combatants and executed when the massacre intensified. With rape and murder becoming more and more common, a large number of women and children have also been killed.
