What is the cause of recurrence after anal fistula surgery?

Postoperative recurrence of anal fistula is not uncommon in clinic. The reasons are as follows: (1) Improper treatment of the internal orifice: most of them are because the internal orifice was not found accurately or the primary focus of infection, namely the internal orifice, was not completely removed; (2) Improper management of anal gland: According to recent research, anal gland infection is an important cause of anal fistula, so it is necessary to cut off the anal gland and anal gland duct with inflammation in and near the internal mouth; (3) The fistula branch and its fistula cavity are not completely removed: that is, the necrotic tissue is not scraped completely or the branch is removed during the operation, which will lead to recurrence; (4) Complicated internal orifice: When the fistula has two or more internal orifices, the internal orifices cannot be completely found, leading to recurrence. In addition, some patients have perianal abscess due to anal gland infection, leading to new anal fistula; (5) the dressing change is not in place after operation, and the wound adheres prematurely, forming false healing; (6) With systemic diseases, such as diabetic anal fistula, besides local treatment, patients with anal fistula must also be treated with hypoglycemic therapy, and only in this way can good therapeutic effects be achieved.
