What are the characteristics of water?

Water is characterized by high boiling point, high vaporization heat, high heat capacity, abnormal expansion, good solvent and continuous association.

Like other substances, water increases in volume and decreases in density when heated. The density of pure water at 0℃ is 999.87kg/m3, and that of water at boiling point is 958.38kg/m3, which is 4% lower.

The importance of water:

First of all, water is the main component of body fluids. Water in human body is collectively called body fluid, which is concentrated in cells, tissues and various pipelines, and is an important substance that constitutes cells, interstitial fluid, plasma and so on.

Secondly, water is the carrier for transporting nutrients and metabolites. As the medium of all chemical reactions in the body, water is a platform for transporting various nutrients and substances. Blood transports oxygen, glucose, amino acids, enzymes, hormones and vitamins to the whole body, and transports metabolic wastes such as carbon dioxide, urea and uric acid to the kidneys, which are excreted with urine, and a few wastes are excreted by sweat. These metabolic activities are inseparable from water.

Third, keep a stable body temperature. Only with the help of water and oxygen can the intake of carbohydrate, fat and protein, which generate heat in the body, be metabolized and decomposed, release heat and maintain body temperature.
