Development history
The rudiment of glasses began with the crystal convex mirror in the Eastern Han Dynasty. A small and exquisite crystal magnifying glass was unearthed from Liu Jing's tomb in Aiquanshan, Yangzhou, Jiangsu. It is a crystal convex mirror, round, embedded in a ring-shaped gold ring, which can magnify the object five times.
Liu Jing was the son of Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It can be seen that as early as the early years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, China's mirror-making technology and craft had been superb, and the prototype of glasses began to appear in the Han Dynasty.
In the early years of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (AD 1628), an outstanding technician named Sun appeared in the history of Suzhou glasses. He invented and developed optical lenses with different uses, such as Baihua mirror, Yuan Yang Jing, magnifying glass, polygon mirror and magic lens.
Since then, the glasses made by Sun Qiu Yun have become world-famous. Unfortunately, such an accomplished technical talent died at the age of 33, but he left behind a scientific and technological work called "History of Mirrors", which played an immeasurable role in promoting the glasses manufacturing technology in later generations.
After Sun, during the Qianlong and Jiaqing years of the Qing Dynasty, there was another person who made glasses in Suzhou, named Chu Sanshan. He further developed the technology of making glasses, and the sales hall was quite influential. By the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the production and sales of glasses were booming in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Tianjin, Guangzhou and other places, and glasses became specialized commodities.
