Good memories of Nantun Coal Mine

For a rural child who grew up in a remote area of southwest Shandong, Nantun Coal Mine of Yanzhou Mining Bureau, where his father works, is a place I yearn for very much.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Nantun Coal Mine was a growth period for enterprises. The mine is thriving, the workers are full of energy and full of strong industrial atmosphere.

In those years, I pestered my family to go to my father's unit every summer vacation. Because summer is a busy farming season, my family has no time to see me off. As I am 1 1 years old, I went to find my father by bus from Shan County. Although it is only a short stay and life of more than one month every year, Nantun Coal Mine has left me many unforgettable memories.

Let's talk about eating first

My father was very busy at work and had to go down into the well. Sometimes I can't see my father for a day. I will solve the problem of eating by myself. My father put the meal ticket in the canteen of public housing (workers' dormitory). When the meal arrived, I went to the canteen in the mine to eat by myself. There were two canteens in the mine at that time. In my memory, the huge exhaust fans in the two canteens are always rotating, always emitting the aroma of food. Here I can eat things I have never eaten in my hometown and see dishes and food I have never seen before, which makes me very satisfied and surprised. The canteen of Nantun Coal Mine is a warm memory of my life.

In addition to the food sold in the canteen, the best food is the "class Chinese food" brought by my father when he came back from the well, which is free food to replenish energy for the workers in the well. The canteen can't be bought, whoever goes down the well will supply it, and there is an invoice. This kind of "Chinese-like food" is actually a big and thick meat pie, which is the best oily meat pie I have ever eaten.

In summer, you can also eat ice cream distributed to miners, which is a self-made summer food in the mine canteen. Father sometimes comes back from the well, and he can call back a dozen with a lunch box at a time. The main ingredients of this ice cream are milk and sugar, and the dripping water is like milk. It tastes milky and sweet, which is many times more delicious than the 50-cent popsicle I ate in my hometown in the countryside.

Except for entertainment.

What I like best is watching TV at the radio station in the square at night. At that time, television was still a rare thing. I didn't know what it was like before I came to the mine.

At that time, the mine bought a 2 1 inch Japanese color TV set for the workers to see. Several small houses were built in public places in the mine, and small windows were left at a height of two or three meters. At about 6 pm every day, full-time staff open the small window to expose the TV screen and start playing TV programs. After dinner, the workers sat on the small bench in front of the small house in twos and threes. I stood and watched, excited, and I didn't feel tired after standing all night. At that time, the favorite TV series of Hong Kong and Taiwan, especially martial arts, was obsessed. The most regrettable thing is that my holiday is coming before I finish watching the TV series, so I have to leave with the greatest disappointment.

Then there is the club in the mine, which shows movies every week, which is also quite attractive, because our hometown can't see many open-air movies a year, but it is a cinema with high facilities. Therefore, going to the club gate to see the updated movie posters has become my daily homework. Even if I know that it is only updated once a week, I will go to the gate of the club once a day if I have something to do, which is also the day to count movies. Although most of the films were released during the Cultural Revolution, it is still an exciting festival for me.
