Poems of the ancients praising Kunlun Mountain

The Messenger of Kunlun-Tang

There is no news of the messenger from Kunlun, and the smoke trees in Maoling are sad.

The golden plate is dripping with dew, and its vitality is infinite.

Kirin's back is cracked, and Long Lin's lower red branch is broken.

Where did you hurt the hearts of all ethnic groups? It's been a long night in Gao Mingyue.

Interpretation of vernacular:

The fairy birds of the Queen Mother of the West have not brought back the news of longevity, but the smoke trees in Maoling have been deeply infected with sorrow.

The golden plate in the palace is still collecting jade dew, and the infinite vitality can't be collected.

There are early cracks on the backs of stone beasts on the tombs, and the scales of stone dragons are mostly incomplete.

What makes the world sad is not elsewhere, but the bright moon hanging in the tomb at night.

Extended data:

This poem describes the futility of Emperor Wudi's quest for immortality, ridicules the absurdity of taking medical stone for immortality, and satirizes the foolish behavior of ancient and modern emperors in pursuit of immortality.

The first couplet, "The messenger of Kunlun Mountain is missing, and the smoke trees in Maoling Mountain are sad", starts from Xu Wei, and "missing" is opposite to "sad", which not only traces the background of the poem back to myths and legends, but also focuses on Liu Che, the Emperor of the Han Dynasty. Although Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty pursued immortality, he drank high curative value and absorbed his vitality, but he was finally buried in Maoling and died. This shows that human beings can't resist the natural laws of birth, aging, illness and death.

The poem begins by praising the great ambition of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, but lamenting that life and death are irresistible. This is the wishful thinking of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty satirizing Tang Xianzong, aiming at opposing such absurd things as eating medical stone and living forever. The artistic conception of this poem is sad, the brushwork is strange and the artistic conception is cold and steep.
