There are many reasons why cats squat, which are common in cats' difficulty in defecation and urination. If the male cat appears hen crouching, touching the abdomen and finding a hard ball, it may be urinary incontinence. If it is caused by difficulty in defecation, it is usually caused by constipation.

Usually cats crouch because the ambient temperature is cold and cats feel a little cold. The hen squats in this position, retracts her paws into her stomach, and keeps her body temperature as much as possible.

Some cats will keep their body temperature through the hen's crouching posture when their body temperature drops due to illness, or when their bodies cannot generate enough heat to maintain vital signs.
