At that time, the Italian army occupied the north bank of Haihe River, and the Italian government wanted to protect the interests of Italians in commerce and shipping, and also opened a consulate in Tianjin. The Italian minister even threatened to occupy the salt piles here by intimidation and force, threatening that all the losses of the salt merchants would not be compensated. Of course, in the end, the interests of salt merchants were not effectively protected. On the north bank of Haihe River, it used to be a large open-air salt storage field. Tianjin people call it swallow camel. In ancient times, there were poems describing it as "salt piles up like a mountain", "dew is bright" and "iceberg is ten feet high", which is a very spectacular sight.

After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, the China government reclaimed the Italian concession. The main facilities of the Italian Concession in those days are basically well preserved. At present, Tianjin and Hebei District are building this area together with the former Austro-Hungarian Concession into a tourist area with Italian and Austrian customs. Many buildings have been repaired and are being developed and utilized.
