Under the background of unprecedented strengthening of absolutism, the achievements of science, technology and culture in Ming Dynasty were not as good as those in Tang and Song Dynasties. Literary works produced such famous works as Peony Pavilion, Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and The Journey to the West. At the same time, there appeared a collection of short stories such as Sanyan and Erpai, and a long popular novel Jin Ping Mei. Scientific and technological works such as Compendium of Materia Medica, Heavenly Creations and Encyclopedia of Agricultural Management are all over the world. Yongle Dadian, initiated by Ming Dynasty, is the largest existing book in China. Political corruption, frequent natural disasters and heavy exploitation in the late Ming Dynasty led to a peasant uprising in northern Shaanxi in the early years of Chongzhen, which quickly developed into a peasant uprising sweeping the country. 1644, Li Zicheng led the rebels into Beijing, Emperor Chongzhen committed suicide, and the Ming Dynasty perished. After the demise of the Ming dynasty, the remnants of the Ming dynasty once established a short-term regime in Jiangnan, which was called Nanming in history.
