How should those who study Buddhism at home keep the abstinence from drinking and lying?

The principle of precepts is: don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.

All sentient beings do not want to be killed, stolen, deceived, or have their wives and daughters raped. You don't want to either.

These four items are the fundamental precepts. No one wants to suffer it! If you do it, you will form bad karma, and you will have to accept the pain of retribution.

The fifth commandment---the drinking commandment is a covering commandment. The purpose is to protect your mind of keeping the precepts and be vigilant at all times. Make sure the first four precepts are not broken. If a layman can't refuse the love etiquette at work, he can have a romantic relationship, but he can't get drunk.

The first rule of lying is to remember not to lie, not to speak big words, not to use sweet words, and not to hurt others with your words. Do not mislead others with words.

But lying to evil people or people who do not know the cause and effect in order to protect the weak or based on good deeds to prevent them from doing evil is not considered lying, but is done for convenience.
