How to evaluate the animated film Towards the Bright Side?

Hello, this movie is seven short films adapted from picture books, each of which is about ten minutes. I haven't read any of these picture books, so my first contact was from the perspective of a movie audience.

Generally speaking, these short films are not very story-telling (except General Hum and General Ha, which will be discussed separately later). If we call regular feature films "novels", then these short films are more like "essays", at best, they can only be called "prose novels", and the whole film is a collection of essays.

Wang Zengqi said, "Probably traditional and rigorous novels are a bit like mountains, and prose novels are like water." This movie gives me the feeling of slowly flowing water. There are no ups and downs, no heroic mental journey, just a calm description of some ordinary people and things, and various childhood fogs.

My favorite metaphor about childhood is "river". Childhood is like a small river, whether it flows through the riverbed of our lives or we wade across the river leading to our lives, whether it is slow or urgent, we all recall: Oh, it is that small river! When we grow up, we often think of a spray at that time and the yellow road crossing the river bank. Because the waves occasionally beat gently in our hearts, the tears falling from the clover in Chiba accompanied us into the sea.

Now, there are seven rivers in front of us. I think there are good and bad.

Well, they have their own texture, and there is always something you like. Different styles of painting, different dialects, different characters, different stories, different narrative styles … I will talk about them one by one!

The bad thing is that they are one after another, and you can only follow the movies involuntarily, and you can't stop to taste them at all. Although everyone has a warm and bright core, each film is an independent artistic conception. Although I made beautiful and interesting cross-talk and animation, I still think cross-talk is not a good idea. Some people may say that reading picture books will also lead to reading several books. However, when reading picture books, even if we don't stop after reading them, we should adjust the speed and page-turning rhythm according to the situation on the spot. Effective reading of picture books must ensure the entry and exit of artistic conception.

Not all picture books are suitable for making movies. Two different art forms have their own advantages and disadvantages. Compared with picture books, movies are characterized by constantly moving pictures, proper dubbing and rendering of background music, even 3D or 4D…… ................................................................................................................................................ However, if you just immerse yourself in one artistic conception, and then get another one, and then another one … the result will be very uncomfortable. In this sense, sometimes it is better to keep a distance between one beauty and another. So I have reservations about the way short films-and short films of prose culture-are strung together into large films.

Next, I will briefly talk about my feelings about each short film. Purely academic discussion-I have some professional knowledge! When I wrote these comments, I followed the example of Mr. Liu, that is, the purpose is to promote the development of creation, and sometimes I need to try my best to discover "new qualities" and sometimes I need to keep my views secret. Unfortunately, when I really started writing these academic papers, my husband had passed away. Well, I really want to hear what he has to say.

The rabbit's problem

Ink painting style, very elegant and warm. It becomes bigger and smaller, changing scenes and jumping from one frame to another. These animation effects are also very interesting. I also like the art of blank space. Nowadays, animated films, especially three-dimensional animation, sometimes feel too full and real. Technology and expression are not as advanced as possible, but what you want to express is the best.

However, this short film has a fundamental problem, that is, the problem of text selection: children ask these questions mostly in preschool age, and they are in the period of going out from home to find friends to play. When asking these questions, children are curious about the world and want to explore; On the other hand, I want to confirm my parents' love and security again and again. Moreover, love and security are more important, because this is the foundation and the premise. The more secure children feel, the more they dare to go out and explore. This picture book, together with two other famous rabbit picture books, The Runaway Rabbit and Guess how much I love you, is more suitable for parents to read, because children want their parents to answer these questions, hope their parents to hug them, and hope to feel love constantly in their questions and answers with their parents ... Children often read some picture books over and over again just because they want to build some very good pictures in their hearts. Adults have left home to explore the world, perhaps flying far and far, but no matter how far they fly, my mother has that thread in her hand and will often think of the way out of the house. Therefore, adults will think of their childhood through this work and will be very moved. However, adults' "self-touch" and "children-oriented" are not integrated. Therefore, The Rabbit Problem is excellent as a picture book, but I don't think it is appropriate to make it into a movie.

Firefly girl

This short film is like a short fantasy novel, telling the story of the farewell party the day before the bus driver retired. In such a short space, it has created a kind and considerate image of bus drivers. The relationship between man and nature is full of warmth. It is natural to enter and leave the fantasy world, which is a bit like the fantasy works of Kenji Miyazawa, Naoko Anfang and Tang Tang, perhaps because of the oriental temperament of the serial studio, or perhaps because it has a longer history.

At the same time, the circular image, pure and transparent colors, painting style and story complement each other. I like it!
