Does the greenhouse effect mean more and more extreme weather? What do you think?

We know that climate anomalies have occurred in many parts of the world in the past one or two hundred years. Climate anomalies include greenhouse effect and extreme weather that leads to global warming, and extreme weather often leads to some meteorological disasters. Today we mainly talk about the greenhouse effect.

I. Greenhouse gases

When it comes to the greenhouse effect, we have to talk about human activities. Since entering the industrial society, after the great development of productivity, the content of greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere has increased rapidly due to the massive combustion of fossil fuels such as coal and oil (as well as the emission of automobile exhaust and the reduction of forest area).

Second, principles.

As we mentioned before, solar radiation passes through the atmosphere and reaches the ground, transferring its energy to the surface. After the surface absorbs energy, the surface temperature is higher than the air temperature and begins to transfer energy to the atmosphere. This energy is called ground radiation. This ground radiation is a long-wave band, and greenhouse gases such as water vapor and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can strongly absorb long-wave radiation. After absorbing a certain amount of energy, the atmosphere also radiates energy outward like the surface. One is to return to the surface, which we call atmospheric inverse radiation, and the other is to be lost into space.

The existence of atmospheric inverse radiation is very important for the survival of life on earth, because it can return some heat lost by ground radiation to the surface and play a role in heat preservation. For example, which is colder in winter, sunny night or cloudy night? Which is more susceptible to frostbite? We can judge this by our own feelings. It's warmer on cloudy days at night and colder on sunny days. The principle is that on cloudy nights, there are many atmospheric components, and the atmospheric reverse radiation is strong, returning some heat.

However, extremes meet, and it is not necessarily a good thing that the atmospheric inverse radiation is too strong. That is to say, when there are too many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, more heat will return to the ground and less heat will be lost, so the surface temperature will rise. The result is global warming and rising temperatures.

Three. Results and measures

After global warming, polar glaciers began to melt and the glacier area decreased. Many animals begin to face the survival crisis of losing their homes, such as polar bears, which can't stay in the sea for a long time without the support of ice. The greenhouse effect will also lead to sea level rise, and some coastal or island areas will be submerged due to low altitude, so people living here will have to find another place. Extreme weather phenomena began to appear in some areas, which brought losses to agriculture, industry and property.

We have realized this problem, and many countries in the world have joined forces to sign the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which sets strict regulations on the greenhouse gas emissions of all countries.

Things should be viewed from two aspects. Global warming is also beneficial, but generally speaking, the disadvantages outweigh the benefits. Bian Xiao thinks that now that we know the principle and reason of the problem, it will gradually ease. The key is to understand the importance of geographical environment to us. Human beings and nature are interdependent.
