Mamenxilong, the longest-necked dragon in Jurassic, can reach almost 20 meters.

In 1950s, China discovered a sauropod dinosaur, whose full name was Mamen Xilong. At that time, Chinese scientists discovered the fossil remains of Mamen Xilong in Yibin City, Sichuan Province. Scientists all over the country are excited about this and have mobilized many excellent scientists to study these fossils. Finally, they came to the conclusion that it was a sauropod dinosaur. One of the characteristics of Mamen Xilong is its length, which can almost reach more than 20 meters. Because of its long neck, Mamen Xilong can reach a height of about seven meters.

1. Morphological characteristics of Mamenxilong

Mamenxilong's neck is similar to that of giraffes today. Its spine is heavy, but it can bear most of the weight of Mamenxilong's body. Compared with other dinosaurs, Mamenxilong's skull is smaller and its teeth are not sharp enough, which makes it face great challenges in survival.

Because of its physiological conditions, it can't make a living by preying on other animals, so it will stay away from other dinosaurs most of the time and live in a place rich in water. Its long neck allows it to taste the high trees. Giraffe is the creature with the longest neck that we can see at present, but Mamenxilong is longer than giraffe and has more cervical vertebrae. Although the number of cervical vertebrae is large, it only supports the neck, and the movement of the neck is not flexible.

Second, the origin of the name of Mamen Xilong

Mamen Xilong was first discovered in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, China. In 1950s, roads were built for development near Maming Xilong in Yibin. Road builders found the skeleton fossils of Mamen Xilong during the road construction. They didn't know what a fossil was, but they were flustered and reported it. After one discovery, Professor Yang rushed to the scene and named the dinosaur after the land name. However, during the communication, people mistakenly thought it was Mamen Xilong because of a slip of the tongue. Later, the wrong name was widely known, but few people knew it at first, and finally it was renamed Mamen Xilong directly, which is also the official name of this dinosaur.
