The experience of new immigrants looking for jobs in Australia

Are Australian immigrants easy to find jobs? In fact, new immigrants are not vulnerable groups, at least they should not feel sorry for themselves. Your English is good enough, and you know the local recruitment culture better. Find the right direction, stick to it, and you will see hope. Let's share the experience of new immigrants looking for jobs in Australia.

Let me talk about the background first:

In 2006, I went to study in Hong Kong, graduated from university on 20 10, and graduated with a master's degree on 201. Since then, I have been engaged in an unpopular job. Immigration was my childhood dream, but I never really studied it until 20 14 when I found my job in CSOL.

Like all skilled immigrants, first submit academic qualifications and professional examinations, then take IELTS 4-7, and then submit an application to the Immigration Bureau. They signed their visas in March, 20 15, and landed in Ade in June 10 of the same year.

I started as a volunteer, and found two volunteers who were highly related to my career, so I got references.

The first interview was rejected because of high qualifications; After that, I applied for several interstate positions, with electricity, but none of them had the following; Then there was an interview, and I didn't get it because the direction really didn't match what I had done before.

April 20 16 finally ushered in a breakthrough. It was a 60,000 job interview for a large organization. The overall feeling was good, the presentation was smooth, and the interview answer was good, but it was rejected because the other interviewer had a slightly closer background.

Although I was rejected, this interview gave me great confidence. It turns out that I am only a little bit away from the offer, as long as I insist.

Then there was an interstate interview. This time I flew directly to the reference check stage, but I missed it. However, this job is not highly consistent with my background, I understand.

Later, there were two interstate interviews, and I went there myself. Finally, this institution finally gave me an offer.

A * * * lasted for seven months.

In the past seven months, I have been insisting on being a volunteer, but I only chose those that are highly related to my career and didn't play other jobs, especially blue-collar jobs. I am a girl, I can't do manual labor, and I have been "only reading" since I was a child. I can't work as a waiter. More importantly, unless you are really short of money, it seems to me that all this work is a waste of time.

One month after I arrived in Adebayor, I was lucky enough to meet a local senior HR and help me revise my resume for free. I will also ask him any interview questions. Of course, the condition is that I also help him do business for free.

Of course, I'm also confused. I signed up for some college courses to see if I should change careers. But after listening for a month, I gave up. Tuition and living expenses plus two or three years' investment, starting salary after graduation and Australian employers' emphasis on work experience make me feel that reading is not the solution to the problem.

In addition, I would like to share that my brothers (a well-known IT company in Hong Kong) and sisters (the four major auditors in Hong Kong) found stable jobs (two months for boys and four months for girls) shortly after landing in Victoria, and their income was considerable.

Therefore, new immigrants are not vulnerable groups, at least they should not feel sorry for themselves. Your English is good enough, and you know the local recruitment culture better. Find the right direction, stick to it, and you will see hope.

Li Jia:

Everyone attaches importance to English writing, in fact, oral English is the biggest obstacle to future work.

Let me share it, too. I came to Canberra from China in 2008 to study as a graduate student, graduated in 2009, and got the offer of Accenture graduate program from 2065438 to early 2002.

(Generally speaking, many people don't understand that during the period from 20 10 to 20 12, the Immigration Bureau withheld many people's TR applications, so many people, like me, took the TR bridge. A bridge visa is a visa without any guarantee for a whole year and a half. There is no proof that the Immigration Bureau will definitely give you TR, so it is difficult to find it through normal channels when applying for a job. In addition, if you still hold the TR bridge sign more than half a year after graduation, you can't apply for PR directly before TR comes down. So that time was really a hopeless immigration prison. Looking back on this period of time, I was really under great pressure and had infinite doubts about myself and my choice to stay in Australia. For the younger brothers and sisters at this stage, I want to say, watch the rescue of Mars. Faced with difficulties, there is only one problem to be solved.

In this experience, I have the following experiences (I have personally encountered the following situations more than once, hoping to give you real help):

1. English must be good. Many people write IELTS cards, so everyone attaches great importance to writing, but in fact speaking is the biggest obstacle in their future work.

2. Good grades don't have to be HD average. There is still a great chance to strive to be above D average. Good grades are a very important screening criterion for students with less work experience.

Personally, I don't think taking part in social activities can directly help you find a job. Communication skills, organizational skills, leadership skills and many other skills are helpful to you after work, and you can attach importance to networking. I'm not good at this.

What the company needs is not the best employees, but employees who want this job. You should do your homework well. The more time you spend preparing for this job interview, the more you can prove that you really want this job, instead of trying your luck or getting another offer. When preparing for the company interview, I will collect the company's history, background and other information online, and even ask the company's employees on linkedin. Although I sometimes touch myself, I think if I work hard, the other person will definitely feel it.

In the online job advertisements, some people left their phone numbers and email addresses at the same time. Please be sure to call directly, send an email directly without calling, and your resume is almost 100% for nothing.

6. If you call and find that the other party is a headhunter rather than a company that needs to recruit, you can ask the other party about the selection criteria. Australian headhunters receive money from recruitment companies, so they will be more willing to help candidates who seem to make them profitable.

7. Print enough resumes in advance for the interview. In case an executive wants to drop by temporarily, you can directly give them a resume, and the other party will give you extra points.

8. The interview should be meaningful and adhere to the star principle, that is, the principle of situation, task, action and result. None of these four parts is complete enough.

9. Leave the contact information of the other party after the interview. It is best to send a thank-you letter to the other party on the same day, stating that you have learned a lot in the interview, and once again stressing that you think you are very suitable for this position and want this job very much. Remind the interviewer to brush his presence when he may forget you.

The following is the running account of my work:

From April 10 to May 1 10, I worked as a maintenance worker in a humble second-hand printer repair shop. My main customers are primary and secondary schools in Australia, and my main business is to repair and maintain school printers. Working hours are relatively free, calculated by hours, usually from 9: 00 to 5: 30.

By the end of 10, because the company's inventory management was completely confused by excel, I thought about using database knowledge and Access to compile a database with UI to facilitate inventory management. I bring this up to say that if everyone, like me, is reduced to doing some dead-end jobs from the beginning, then they can be more careful and think more about how to improve their work efficiency and workflow. I think this experience has given me a lot of confidence, which is the most important measure of the consulting company. Well, I'm not narcissistic.

1 1 May, because the business of the original company was not good, the salary could not be paid, and he left the company voluntarily. At the same time, he passed four sevens and submitted a PR application. After that, I sold used cars, cleaners and CNC machine tools in furniture factories piecemeal.

11September got PR and began to apply for graduate programs of major companies.

1 1 year 1 1 month to participate in the one-on-one interview of Accenture graduate program, and get a second interview through the interview.

/kloc-February, through the second round of group interview and the third round of partner interview, I got the offer.

Geng Yue:

I grabbed the last straw with all my strength and climbed up.

When I first came here, I had no money. What should I do? Go to the fruit shop to move goods, one day 13 hours, from 6 am to 7 pm. I remember when I first came, it was July. At that time, it was still summer when I came out of Tianjin, and it became winter when I arrived in Sydney. When I went out at 5: 40, it was dark and very cold. Sometimes it's windy, sometimes it rains. I had to rush to the fruit shop and wait to open the door. Then I will take out a car full of fruit from the freezer and put it for breakfast at 9 o'clock. I remember that in the first month, I only rested for four days, which means that I can only see the sun for four days this month. That's really a flying Dai Yue.

I played mobile games in China. Even in 1996, I sat for 12 hours a day. At that time, I was most afraid of cervical spondylosis, but when I arrived in Sydney, I was not worried at all. My stomach is gone, my chicken, oh, no, my muscles have grown up. Of course, there is nothing to be happy about, because I don't know how to find a professional job at all. I don't want to be in an Australian supermarket in the future.

Because I have taught myself a little about Android development in China, I want to simply pick it up and give it a try. So I teach myself Android development every day and try to do projects myself, no matter how tired I am, I guarantee 3 hours of learning and development time every day. I still remember stealing tests in the freezer, stealing debugging code while doing it, and stealing interviews when I went out to repair my computer. At that time, my sadness and anxiety made me unforgettable. At that time, I had been in Sydney for half a year and had never been to the Sydney Opera House. Even if I was repairing computers in the city, I was not interested, really.

Then, by a special opportunity, I suddenly got an offer. I was stupid, and happiness came too suddenly. I even doubt whether I really have the ability to do office work. On the night of signing the contract, I had a nightmare that I will never forget. I dreamed that I was thrown into prison, and my life was hopeless. After waking up, I was sweating all over and my heart was pounding. I calmed down, knowing that this may be the only chance for me to gain a foothold in Australia in my life, and I will seize it desperately.

Today, two and a half years later, I have been sitting in an air-conditioned room, carrying my latest computer, showing off and bragging here. Many people in China envy this kind of life, but who knows, that effort really almost crushed me, and I tried my best to catch that straw and climb up.
