How to evaluate Wang Anshi's character in history?

In ancient China, the top-level design could be greatly changed during the period of the founding emperor. Then once the system is formed, it will naturally give birth to an interest group for a long time and become a resistance to social change. In Wang Anshi's political reform, there were self-employed and serious people in the old party, moths in the country and firm reformers and political speculators in the new party. Wang Anshi's political reform has ideas and ethics, but he has not done enough research on social class and economy. Wang Anshi did not have a mature theory of social reform to guide his work.

I have been paying attention to the political reform in Xining in northern Song Shenzong recently. Wang Anshi's personality, needless to say, is very good. There are two points here. On the one hand, his political opponents evaluated him. Sima Guang and Su Shi were both leading figures who explicitly opposed political reform in the literary world at that time. Their doubts about Wang Anshi focused on politics, and almost all of them had affirmed Wang Anshi's image as a gentleman in character.

The second aspect is about evaluation. There are different views in history, in fact, more about his political views. Wang Anshi is not a fairy, he is also a human being. Some people criticized him for being idealistic and unrealistic, but in the face of great resistance, he did have the courage to resolutely realize his ideals. I think Wang Anshi is the most pragmatic one. Some people say that he pushed out his colleagues and suppressed the Conservative Party because those moral gentlemen at that time (in fact, there were many moral leaders in the Conservative Party) did not agree with Wang Anshi. How do you think Wang Anshi used them? Do you expect him to rely on Sima Guang, Han Qi and Su Shi as pioneers of political reform?

Then there are some people who think that Wang Anshi's political reform led to (or accelerated) the demise of the Northern Song Dynasty, which is a view that one leaf can't see Mount Tai. Shang Yang was a successful reformer, and Qin Ershi died. Zhang was a good reformer, but how long did Daming last? Whether the reform is necessarily related to the demise of the dynasty is debatable. Any party struggle is the responsibility of two factions. Can't throw all the pots to Wang Anshi just because Wang Anshi's political reform caused party struggles in the Northern Song Dynasty? Didn't you conservatives embellish it?

Where is the party struggle when no one is fighting? There will be controversy if there is change. So I think the traditional criticism of Wang Anshi is basically irrelevant. To criticize Wang Anshi, we should at least judge from the means of reform, the employment of reform and the strategy of reform, and judge from history, system and technology (specific content), instead of smearing such a historical figure in an empty way. In fact, it is proved that Wang Anshi did make major mistakes in the above three points.
