Can anyone tell me the difference between VIA Southbridge VT8237s vt8237a vt8237R Plus vt8237r?

8237 is the earliest model released. It is VIA’s first Southbridge to support SATA first-generation (SATA-150) interface and integrated RAID function. The later version 8237R has no difference, and an R is added for emphasis. This Southbridge also supports disk RAID technology.

8237R Plus is a revised version launched to correct the inability of 8237(R) to automatically recognize SATAII standard hard drives. However, this Southbridge still has quite a few compatibility issues with SATAII hard drives.

8237A is based on 8237R Plus and adds support for HD high-definition audio. The other features are the same as 8237R Plus.

8237S is based on 8237A and adds support for SATAII devices (but does not support NCQ and AHCI functions). The other features are no different from 8237A.

VIA finally launched the final version of Southbridge VT8251, which natively supports 4 SATAII interfaces and supports all standards under SATAII including NCQ and AHCI technology. However, the yield rate is too low and shipments are very few. Rarely used in end products.
