What is a meme?

Meme refers to the ideas, behaviors or styles spread between people in the same cultural atmosphere. Now it is often used to refer to some pictures or videos with strong communication.

Meme can be considered as a synonym for "stem". There are many different translations in Chinese, such as transliteration of mother tongue, mimi, meme, meme, meme and so on.

The carrier genre of meme is diverse, which can be a sentence, a picture, a melody, an action or even a word.

Change process

In order to pronounce the word "gene" similar, Dawkins removed the prefix "mi" from the Greek root "mimeme" and changed it to "meme". This change is easily associated with the word "memory" in English or the word "same" or "meme" in French.

Shortly after Dawkins put forward the concept of meme, many scholars, such as richard brodie and Ahrenling, followed Dawkins' viewpoint, actively wrote articles to clarify the meaning and laws of meme, and tried to establish a memetic theory of cultural evolution.
