Pavlov defended the war against 23 Soviet soldiers. Why didn't the Germans attack for a long time?

The Battle of Stalingrad in World War II was an important battle and a turning point in the Soviet-German war. The two sides struggled for 199 days in this strategic place, and every inch of land became a bloody battlefield. One of the most classic battles is the battle of Pavlov Building.

Pavlov Building used to be just an ordinary nameless red building, which is in the center of Stalingrad. Under the constant bombardment of German artillery, the surrounding buildings have become ruins. Not far from here is an important dock, through which the Soviet Union's material transfer work has to be transferred, and because this building stands alone, it has become the only commanding height to observe the enemy situation around it.

So when the Germans took the lead, the Soviet Union sent a six-member team led by Pavlov to launch a surprise attack in the dark and take back the control of the building. The Soviet Union sent 17 people back and forth, and they came here with heavy machine guns, anti-tank rifles, mortars and other weapons to support.

At this time, 23 Soviet soldiers were stationed in the building. Facing the crazy German offensive, they struggled for 58 days until the German army retreated. So what caused the Germans to delay attacking this strategic location?

First, the spirit of Soviet Qi Xin's concerted efforts

In fact, the Soviet Union is a multi-ethnic country. At that time, the soldiers guarding the building included Russians, Tajiks and even a Jew. Although there are different nationalities and colors, these people are fighting together for the same goal.

There are still some civilians in the building who haven't had time to evacuate. These people refused the request of the Soviet army to transfer them safely and resolutely stayed to help fight the enemy.

They not only take care of soldiers' daily life, but also do nursing work for the wounded. They also dug trenches, delivered messages and even picked up guns and fired at the enemy in times of crisis. So this battle is not only the victory of 23 people, but also the United victory of the brave and strong Soviet people, and it is the epitome of the whole Stalingrad war and even the whole anti-fascist war.

second: excellent strategy and tactics of the Soviet army

The whole four-story building was built into a solid bunker by the Soviet army, with mortars in the attic, which could fire at the German army from the commanding heights.

The rooms in the building are opened, which makes it convenient for the soldiers to move around the windows in the building. The window glass is removed, and sandbags are used as a cover on the windowsill, which is convenient for heavy machine guns to fire and is also suitable for throwing grenades, both of which have great lethality.

outside the building, the Soviet army first isolated the building from the outside world with layers of wire. The outer layer of the wire was a cold water ditch with a depth of more than one meter. In the cold winter, the water in the ditch was biting to the bone, so jumping off it was equivalent to losing combat effectiveness. Another layer is a dense minefield. If the Germans want to attack at close range, they will be greeted by invisible mines first.

Pavlov Building also dug a tunnel and connected it with another nearby Soviet site, the flour mill building. They can always get the support of their comrades-in-arms during the war.

Third: the arrogance and stupidity of the Germans

Generally speaking, when the Germans attacked Stalingrad, they took reckless factors. Because Germany used lightning tactics to be invincible on the battlefield at the beginning of World War II, Hitler thought that Stalingrad seemed to be at your fingertips.

He set up a smoke screen to make the Soviets think that he would attack Moscow, but unexpectedly attacked Stalingrad and caught the Soviets off guard, hoping to make a quick decision. However, he ignored the tenacious will and combat capability of the Soviet army, so that he was finally dragged into the mire of street fighting.

In fact, the German army had already controlled this building in September and put a lot of materials here. However, they didn't send too many people to guard here. Pavlov wiped out all the German uniforms here with only six men, which shows that their defense is very slack.

There are a lot of strategic materials left by the German army in this building, from guns and ammunition to food and medicine. Therefore, the team does not have to consider the issue of material supply at all. Hit the enemy with enemy guns, this day is simply not too cool.

The German army is relatively isolated in the stage of street fighting. Not only is there less and less air support, but the tanks can't exert their due power at all. The longer the time dragged on, the faster the German combat effectiveness fell for lack of food and warm clothes.

Because of the above reasons, Pavlov led his comrades to defeat the German attack again and again, and won after 58 days. Later, the building was named after Pavlov to commemorate the classic battle of winning more with less.
