When is it appropriate for young breeding pigs to start breeding?

(1) wild boar

Although it is possible for the sow to get pregnant if the young boar has just reached the early stage of sexual maturity, its reproductive system continues to develop at this time. Premature mating will hinder the development of young boars themselves, and sows often have few and weak litters and grow slowly. It is not only bad for production, but also shortens the utilization cycle of breeding boars in the long run, and even causes the degradation of pigs. Therefore, before sexual maturity comes, it is necessary to divide the male and female to prevent cheating. However, using it too late is not good for production. On the one hand, it will increase the cost of the cultivation period. On the other hand, if young boars don't use it for a long time after sexual maturity, it will cause the boars' temperament to be uneasy, affect their normal development, and sometimes even lead to sex addiction. So, when is the right time to start breeding?

Due to the different breeds and management conditions of pigs, the age at which young boars begin to breed is very different. The adaptive age of boars should not be less than 9 months. Due to the early maturity of local varieties in China, the mating age can be appropriately advanced. Generally speaking, boars with normal growth and development should weigh more than 50% of their adult weight when breeding. Lean pigs imported from abroad grow fast, and their weight should be controlled at 1 10 ~ 120 kg. The first mating age of boars is generally 8 ~ 10 months old.

(2) Sows

The suitable breeding time of sows is not only related to age, but also to growth and development (weight). Most sows can be safely bred and produced when their weight reaches 120kg. Moreover, the weight of the sow is in the range of 1 10 ~ 130 kg, and the litter size in the second estrus is the same as that in the third estrus. Early-maturing local variety, 6-8 months old, weighing 50-60 kg.

Some breeders believe that it is better for sows to reproduce if they are light in weight and slow in growth after reaching mating age. After pregnancy, sows show docile temperament and increase their appetite. On the contrary, if it is not allowed to breed, it will go insane for several days every time it is in estrus, and it will not like to eat food, which will affect its development and be unfavorable to production. However, it should be pointed out that after mating, the sow with small weight is still small at delivery, so it can't undertake the breastfeeding task well, which affects the development of piglets and themselves.
