Italy took part in the Second World War. What role did you play?

At the beginning of World War II, Italy played the role of accomplice.

The Italian army mainly participated in three battlefields.

One is the battlefield in North Africa. The Italian North African Corps attacked the allied North African colonies and tried to break the control of the allied forces on the Mediterranean route from the land, all of which ended in failure.

One is the Mediterranean battlefield, where it fought against the British navy and air force, tried to support the land operations in the North African battlefield, assisted the Atlantic battlefield in destroying British maritime traffic, and invaded the Balkans to expand its territory. Although there are some tactical achievements in the Mediterranean battlefield, the strategic objectives have not been achieved.

Finally, the eastern front. After Germany invaded the Soviet Union, Italy sent a large number of troops to help the Germans fight against the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union failed with Germany's failure on the eastern front.

Italy's performance is mainly due to three reasons.

First, Italy's national strength is not strong. Italy's industrial base is weak, its industrial strength is almost at the bottom of the world powers, and its resources are scarce. We all know that Germany was short of oil in World War II, but in fact Italy was even more short of oil. To what extent? The reason why the Italian navy often only sends submarines to fight is not because the battles it participates in are suitable for submarines to attack, but because the fuel in stock is only enough for submarines to attack, and large ships can only wait and see in the port. In this case, the Germans often misappropriated the fuel of the Italian army to supply their own troops to fight.

Second, the combat readiness is insufficient. The Germans spent 20 years planning World War II after their defeat in World War I, while Italy didn't know it was going to war until a few months before joining World War II.

Finally, there is a lack of a unified war goal at home and the army lacks the will to fight. Because Italy stood on the side of Britain and France in World War I and ended the war as a victorious country, it did not gain much. As a result, all Italian domestic troops are arguing whether to join the British and French camp or simply set up a small country, rather than being involved in a big country war. It was the rapid defeat of France in the western front that made Mussolini misjudge the strength of the allies and suppressed all opposition voices to join the German camp. In the case of a large number of domestic opposition, if the fight went well, the Italian army was not fully prepared from the beginning, so most troops were dissatisfied with Mussolini's decision except the die-hard loyalty of the fascist party. Later, the Italian regular army (including many ace troops in the Italian army) went to join the anti-fascist guerrillas. In the online joke about the Italian army, the Yugoslav guerrillas said that they got the artillery from the Italians. In fact, the original text said that the Italian regular army went to join the guerrillas, and then sent some heavy weapons brought from the regular army to the Yugoslav friendly forces, but it was not understood at home that they were captured from the Italian army.
