The difference between Duanzi Yuanxiao and Tangyuan

Difference 1:

Tangyuan: Generally, glutinous rice noodles are mixed, and the stuffing is wrapped in jiaozi for reunion. The fillings are generally sesame seeds and peanuts with sugar;

Yuanxiao: Generally, only plain sweet stuffing is used. The stuffing is cut into small pieces, dipped in water, rolled in a basket filled with glutinous rice flour, and sprinkled with water while rolling (some glutinous rice flour is dipped in water and then rolled into glutinous rice flour), so that it naturally covers the glutinous rice flour and rolls into a ball. It can be mass-produced by machine rolling.

Difference 2:

The water content of dumpling stuffing is more than that of Yuanxiao, which is one of the differences between them.

The process of wrapping jiaozi is also like that of jiaozi, but there is no rolling pin. Wet glutinous rice flour is very sticky, so we have to pull a small group of wet noodles by hand and squeeze them into a circle. Use chopsticks (or thin bamboo tools) to pick a ball of stuffing and put it on the glutinous rice slices, and then turn your hands around to wrap jiaozi. The surface of the finished jiaozi is smooth and shiny, and some of them are pointed, like a peach.

Difference 3: Yuanxiao can't be frozen, otherwise it will crack, and the stuffing will flow out when cooking, so Yuanxiao can only be eaten and cooked now, and it is impossible to buy frozen Yuanxiao.

Moreover, jiaozi can be frozen and eaten all year round, and you can also buy frozen jiaozi.

Yuanxiao and Tangyuan are both holiday food customs in China, and there are still differences between them. Jiaozi is mainly filled with sesame seeds, and Yuanxiao is mainly filled with solid sweet stuffing. Jiaozi can be sold frozen, and Yuanxiao can only be cooked now.
