You are my lighthouse
Last night I read an essay with the same title written by Teacher Zhang and two of her students - You are my lighthouse. Everyone wrote about the characteristics and highlights from different angles. I searched and searched in my mind for the lighthouse that lit up my life.
In fact, as I write, my thoughts are in chaos. What should I write about? Suddenly I remembered something. It would make people laugh if I said it, but it is indeed this thing that has affected me for decades.
It was noon in the summer of 1996. I was twenty-five years old at the time, and my eldest daughter was not yet one year old. That day my wife and I started bickering with each other over trivial matters, and turned into a fight and a fight. In a rage, I broke out of the door and trotted aimlessly along the dusty rural path from the east end of the village to the town street, angry and tearful. Under normal circumstances, no matter what kind of injustice I suffered after marriage, I would reconcile myself and never cause trouble for my parents to complain. It was the same this time, I really wanted to die, but thinking about my baby who had not yet been weaned, my heart hurt like a knife. Reason prevailed over impulse. On the road leading to the county seat, I was recalling all the grievances in my heart. Tears poured down my cheeks and soaked my clothes. I wiped away my tears and decided to take a bus to the county seat. Stay home for two days.
In a daze, the car took me to the county bus station. Based on my memory, I walked along the street and reached the intersection of South Street. From a distance, I saw about a dozen people gathered in a semicircle, listening intently and mysteriously to something. For some reason I moved into that group of people. Following the gap between people, I saw a man with a white beard hanging from his chin, about seventy years old, sitting on a small bench, lowering his head to read palms, looking serious and focused. Curiosity made me stay a little longer.
The crowd slowly dispersed. My face was full of frustration and I had all kinds of knots in my heart. Why not let the old man give me some advice.
Without waiting for the old man to ask, I stepped forward and stretched out my right hand: "How about marriage?"
The old man raised his head and looked at me without saying anything. He held up my right hand with his left hand. The index finger of my right hand traces the lines on my hand.
After looking at me for about two minutes, the old man raised his head, adjusted his glasses, and glanced at me from feet to head. Then he wisely said to me: Good luck lies ahead. The better you get, the better. There will be many hardships along the way, but you will overcome them. If he doesn't leave, don't give up. This is human destiny.
After listening to the old man's words, half of the resentment in my heart has disappeared. Thinking about the reason for the quarrel, I am also very willful, and my husband is usually very good to me, but my temper suddenly gets angry and I can't hold back my anger. As I walked along the street, the accumulated resentment gradually became less and less as the scenery along the road diluted it.
Suddenly, I thought of the baby waiting for her mother, my parents, and the kindness my lover always treated me. I changed my steps and walked to the station leading to my house.
This secret has been hidden in my heart. The old man's words are like a lighthouse in the darkness of my heart, always alerting me and motivating me.
When my career encounters setbacks, I will see the invisible tower buried in my heart, and I will work hard to move forward. When there are disharmonious notes in my marriage, I smile and take a step back to make the world brighter. When I was embarrassed by the chaos of life, I warned myself that this was temporary and I would get better if I stayed calm.
There are too many opportunities and reasons for me to give up. It is this belief that supports me, encourages me, strengthens me, and keeps me moving forward.
There are too many reasons for a person, a thing, a sentence, a moment... it is like a lighthouse that suddenly illuminates your heart and changes you many, many times.
