Creative background:

Liu Zongyuan's landscape poems were written in Yongzhou (now Lingling, Hunan). In the first year of Yuanhe in Tang Xianzong (806), Liu Zongyuan was demoted to Yongzhou for participating in the innovation of Yongzheng, and his ambition was dashed. He suffered a heavy political blow, attached himself to the landscape of a foreign land, wrote the famous Eight Notes of Yongzhou, and wrote many poems describing the beautiful scenery of Yongzhou Lake. The Fisherman is one of the representative works.

Theme appreciation:

By describing the fisherman's inner peace in the mountains and rivers, this poem expresses the author's state of mind of seeking detachment after the failure of political reform and his own attack.

The whole poem is like an elegant amorous feelings painting, colorful, dynamic, wonderful and moving. The poet painted a charming morning scene of mountains and rivers with simple and elegant pen and ink, and revealed his deep and warm inner world from it.
