I'm not a professional film critic, I'm just an ordinary audience. This paper doesn't evaluate the movie Ready Player One from the relative professional angles such as picture soundtrack, plot structure and actor's acting skills, but only talks about my feelings and understanding of watching the movie from the development clue of the movie-three keys, and then analyzes my controversial views on whether Halliday is dead or not.

" It is conceivable that the influence of the game oasis on the real world can no longer be just a game, and the rules of the virtual world oasis can no longer be so simple. Founder Halliday and partner and friend Moro had a disagreement on whether to make more rules, and Moro left the oasis. Halliday died soon after, leaving a video to guide players to find hidden eggs in the oasis, and stating that whoever finds it first will have control and equity in the oasis, becoming the richest man in the world, thus attracting players from all over the world to embark on the adventure of looking for eggs, and also giving birth to IOI, a rebel organization led by sorrento. The protagonist Wade is also one of the egg hunters. In fact, he is a poor boy in a slum. He is addicted to oasis because he hates the painful real world. The game is just a game, and people can only live in reality, so he hopes to get away with it and let the oasis return to its original time, just like it is simple. This is the message that Halliday conveyed to the player through the first key.

Wade and Samantha once again found the information of Halliday's love for Karen through the archives, and introduced the hidden location and task of the second "jade key" from this, and got the "jade key" and clues after rough. Halliday admired Karen when he was young, but he was afraid to flinch and didn't bravely express his feelings and kiss Karen on the date, so he regretted missing it. Finally, Karen became the wife of her good friend Moro, and the "Chaos Planet" ballroom built by halliday for Karen who loves dancing in the oasis became his most disgusting existence.

The acquisition of The Jade Key revolves around the story of Halliday's love for Karen, but I think Halliday uses this as a clue to find a second key, not just to show a sad past. What Halliday really wants to tell the players is that he missed a lot and regretted it for a long time because of that "unfinished step". And the phrase "a step not taken", I think on the one hand, I didn't kiss Karen, on the other hand, I actually didn't integrate into reality.

It can be more boldly speculated that Halliday is regretting that he has been addicted to the game world and almost divorced from the real world, so he feels helpless and timid when dating Karen in the real world. Although he built a ballroom for Karen in the game, in reality Karen chose Moreau. He deeply understands that games can't replace reality. He should have taken that step, bravely embraced the real world and bravely expressed Karen.

Crystal key

The acquisition of the third key "Crystal Key" is also the climax of the story. IOI, represented by sorrento, opened and monopolized the task, and launched a fierce confrontation with ordinary players called by Wade. Finally, sorrento launched the ultimate weapon of "Son of Destruction", and all players were tied up instantly. Wade survived because of the "cheating props" that the curator lost to him, and finally finished "Magic Adventure" and won the final.

In fact, there is no detailed reasoning process in the acquisition of the third key. In my opinion, the meaningful clue is the sentence "What you need, what you want and what you desire are all in that fortress of sadness" that the second key opens. The "fortress of sadness" is actually a metaphor for the bad real world. What Halliday wants to tell players with the help of the third key is that no matter how brilliant you are in the game world, what you really need can only be obtained from the fortress of sadness in the real world. The game will always give players a virtual climax, not sweet bread. Only when people return to reality can they get what they really want.

On the way to get three keys, Wade, our protagonist, changed from a lonely hero who never teamed up in a game to a brave man who fought side by side with his friends in the real world, shared with his friends the oasis wealth he finally got, and invited Moreau, the "curator of halliday archives", to return to the oasis. These actions all represent what you want, wealth, friendship and love, all in the real world, at the same time. This is the confirmation of Halliday's third key.

Wade didn't sign the game contract immediately after getting the egg, but kissed Samantha first, which also shows that Wade understood Halliday's "unfinished step" and changed from an internet addiction teenager who hated overlapping buildings to a good boy who bravely embraced and faced reality. This is the confirmation of Halliday's second key.

At the end of the film, Wade said that after taking over the Oasis, he would close the game every Tuesday and Thursday, making people closer to reality, which also means practicing Halliday's philosophy: caring about the Oasis and living in reality. Oasis also returned to the original position of the game. This is the proof of Halliday's first key.

05 Virtual and Reality

Three keys and three cables represent Halliday's three visions, and also imply three truths that Halliday wants to tell players. Finally, Wade, the protagonist representing the player, realized these three visions, which means that the player understands Halliday's painstaking efforts in designing the egg-seeking game: although it is painful, the real world is the only real existence.

Although I am in 20 18, I don't know if I will really despair in the era of 2045, but I think it is not impossible to infiltrate reality virtually. Finally, regarding the controversy over whether Halliday is dead or not at the end of the film, let me first say my position. I think ... dead, yeah. Don't bother, just list the reasons.

The first point, which is also the most important point in my judgment, is that Anacker is a role, but Halliday is more than just a role. Controversial dialogue comes from the end of the film. Wade asked, "You're not a game character, are you?" Halliday replied, "Yes." Wade asked again, "Is halliday really dead?" Halliday replied, "Yes." Then Wade asked him, "What are you?" Halliday did not answer directly, but thanked him and left the room with his childhood self and closed the door. Ok, after recalling the picture, I will boldly analyze the director's word game. Friends who have seen movies don't know if you have noticed that the role of giving keys has always been Halliday's own game role-Anacker. After the three keys opened the door together, the image of Anacker appeared in the final test scene. However, after passing the test, it became the image of Halliday himself. What does this mean? That Halliday himself thinks he is different from Anacker. Anacker's image can be a character, an NPC and a prop, but Halliday's image is not. Halliday's image represents the owner of the last egg, the developer of the game and the existence of a master. Because he designed all this, when Wade asked, "You're not a game character, are you?" Many protagonists can't die, but they can be resurrected into bugs after they die. But in fact, such behavior not only violates the reasonable development of the story, but also makes the audience feel that it is a joke. On the contrary, the damn people died with the development of the plot. Although the audience is sorry, they will respect the story and the director. What I want to say is that director Spielberg is not the kind of director who dares to hang up his role because he doesn't dare to offend the audience, so in terms of the authenticity and rationality of the story development, Halliday's death is the appropriate ending. Imagine if he hadn't died, wouldn't this whole egg hunt be a joke? And if he is not dead, with his love for the oasis, how can he give the control of the oasis to others?

Thirdly, Halliday finally left Wade's room with his childhood self, went to another space outside the door and closed the door. I think it has two meanings. One is to bring children who have been addicted to games since childhood out of the game and return to reality; Another meaning is that he and Wade live in a different world, and he is leaving ...
