How to read a good article: the skills of reading short articles

Common basic reading skills are: pause, speed, rhythm, stress, sentence tone (intonation).

Section 1 Stop the Company

Interrupt refers to the interruption and continuation of sound when reading aloud.

Interruption is an important factor in spoken English. Without interruption, there would be no spoken English. Language sentence breaking is not only the need of human body breathing, but also the need of expressing the meaning and feelings of the article.

Function of disconnection:

1, the physiological needs of the reciter when reciting;

2. The need of sentence structure;

3, can fully express the needs of thoughts and feelings;

4. Give the listener room to appreciate, think, understand and accept, and help the listener understand the meaning of the article and deepen his impression.

In ancient times, there was a joke born of hanging:

A miserly rich man is going to ask a private school teacher to teach his children to read. When asked about the standard of food, Mr. Xue wrote, "There can be no chicken, duck and fish, only vegetables are indispensable." The rich man understood that "there is no chicken, duck and fish, only food is indispensable, and nothing is taken", so he invited this gentleman. But on the first day of teaching, when Mr Xue saw that there was only one dish of vegetables on the table, he flew into a rage. He took a piece of paper and said, "you can have a duck without a chicken;" Without fish, meat is ok; "Only vegetables, not less, why don't you keep your promise? !

Through this joke, we can see that the difference of pause can completely change the meaning, so you can't pause when reading aloud.

Symbol used to indicate disconnection:

∧ pause With or without punctuation. If used in punctuation, it means a longer pause.

∣ (▲) Decline. It means to separate words or phrases, pause for a short time and don't breathe. It is usually used in sentences where there is no punctuation.

Give intermittent signals, indicating a long pause and breathing. Generally used between levels and paragraphs.

Connection number. Only use it where there are punctuation marks, which means shortening the pause time and reading together.

Extension number. It can be used after any word, phrase, sentence or paragraph to indicate the prolongation of sound.

First, pause.

Generally speaking, there are many kinds of pauses. Here are five common pauses: distinguishing pause, echoing pause, parallel pause, emphasizing pause and psychological pause.

1. Discriminatory pause

Reciting is for listening, pause appropriately and make people understand. If the pause is not arranged properly, the listener may understand something else. So there is a skill, which is to combine the Chinese characters in the sentences to be read and infiltrate them. This also played an obvious role in highlighting the emotional color.

There are two common situations of differentiation pause: one is to distinguish grammatical relations; The other is to emphasize emotional color.

(1) Distinguish grammatical relations.

I once heard such a broken sentence on the Chinese channel of a satellite TV: "Playing the game of police catching thieves", but because of the improper pause position, it was read as "playing the game of police catching thieves", and its meaning became inexplicable. In fact, the correct positioning should be "playing the game of police catching thieves".

(2) Highlight the emotional color.

We can use different pauses when we can understand, so that our thoughts are clearer and our feelings are richer.

For example, the severe pain made Barney feel that his eyes were completely dark. But he knew that the first thing he had to do was to stay awake. -"unimaginable choice"

We can highlight Barney's choice by emphasizing his great pain. Can make people feel the same way. Therefore, this sentence can be understood as follows:

The severe pain ∧ made Barney only feel that his eyes were dark.

2. Echo pause

Echo pause is a pause, which reflects the echo relationship with call and response in a sentence. Before reading this pause sentence, we must understand the echo relationship between sentences, such as who is "Hu" and who is "Ying"; There are several "hoops" and "answers" in a sentence; Whether to "shout" before "should" or "should" before "shout" and so on. For example:

Now play Lu Yao's novel Ordinary World.

Here "play" means "shout", and "Lu Yao's novel" Ordinary World "means" should ".

The echo stops, and there are layers of echoes, that is, large echo sets and small echoes; There are also cases where you should make a few calls and make a few calls. Another example is:

A. Now, I'd like to introduce you to the poems of Du Fu, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, which exposed the tyrannical demands of the ruling class.

This is a typical layer-by-layer echo structure, in which "introducing … poems" is a big echo and "exposing … extortion" is a small echo.

B. He was an actor, taught in a university and worked as an electrician for a few days.

This is a sentence that needs several answers. "He" is a title, and the last three phrases are answers.

C. He is very talented, and the actors, teachers and electricians all do well.

This sentence is a few phone calls.

3. Parallel pause

Parallel pause refers to the pause between words in a work that belong to the same position, relationship and style. For example:

Mother ∧ To take the main road, the road is smooth; My son wants to take the path, which is very interesting.

Here "mother" and "son" are juxtaposed, and "which way to go" and "why" are also juxtaposed. This treatment is conducive to forming a sense of juxtaposition and making the semantics clear. At the same time, it is also conducive to the formation of rhythm.

The mountains are moist, the water is rising and the sun is red.

Here, the mountains, the water and the face of the sun are juxtaposed, and so are the mountains, the water and the face of the sun.

4. Emphasis on suspension

In order to emphasize a sentence, phrase or word, you can pause before or after it, or even before or after it, so as to highlight the emphasized word. For example:

The Yangtze River, known as the natural barrier since ancient times, was conquered by us.

To emphasize "conquest", pause in front.

There is not a green leaf, not a wisp of smoke, not a grain of soil, not a trace of flowers, only a world of water and a sea of clouds.

To emphasize "only", we pause after only.

5. Psychological pause

Psychological pause needs overall understanding and grasp. Psychological pause is determined by psychological emotion, which tests the overall quality of the reciter. For example:

A. She was so scared that she turned to him and said, "I ... I ... I lost Mrs. Frais's necklace.

It shows that due to extreme tension, physiological blood flow and breathing are hindered, and lips and tongue have no effect in language.

B. He stayed there, leaning his head against the wall, without saying anything, but gestured to us: "School is over, let's go." -"The Last Lesson"

There is a long pause after School, which shows Mr. Wang's deep thought and aftertaste: "The motherland has fallen, and the last lesson is over!" When can I have classes in my own national language again? " I feel infinite. Then he came back to reality and said, "Go away." . A short pause before "Let's go" can show the sadness and reluctance at this time.

When reading this sentence aloud, the pause after "the footsteps of spring" can show people's joy and excitement about the coming spring.

Second, connection

Connection refers to a place that is not disturbed or interrupted. Only use it where there are punctuation marks, which means shortening the pause time and reading together. There are two connection modes: direct connection and bending connection.

1. Direct connection (intermittent but tight connection, no ventilation, pause is the most typical). For example:

A. The mountains, rivers, trees and houses are covered with a thick layer of snow, and the mountains and rivers in Wan Li have become a world of powder makeup and jade.

B.you are not as good as one tenth, one percent, and one ten thousandth of his!

"One tenth, one percent, one ten thousand" should be read continuously, without interruption.

2. Qu Lian. The feeling of music connection is like a pause, reaching the feeling that the sound is broken and connected. Commas are used between short sentences, and there is a gap between the end of the previous word and the beginning of the next word, but there is no breath;

Sit, lie down, roll twice, kick a few balls, run a few laps, grab a few laps.

Between the lines of this passage, the excitement and excitement of the author and the villagers flashed, and it was filled with cordial and touching scenes. When reading aloud, the speech speed is fast and the connection is tight, which requires some connection processing.
