What are the characteristics of jade?

Conventional identification includes naked eye observation, magnification inspection, refractive index, birefringence analysis, optical characteristics, color identification, density and other parts. Identification of jade should start with hardness, transparency, color and luster. Compared with counterfeit products, real jade is very hard and wear-resistant, crystal clear and pure in color. The common characteristics of fake jade are wrinkles on the surface, bubbles inside, light weight and low hardness.

Common jade identification methods:

First, luster: whether translucent or opaque, real jade has a warm luster, oily luster and natural patterns, and the internal fiber state is not easy to imitate. It is normal if there are a small amount of impurities or cotton wool patterns in it; Fake jade articles are dry, dull and dull, and some have bubbles;

Second, hardness measurement: scratch with a knife, leaving no traces of real jade. With the glass plate (friction hardness of 5.5) as the standard, except jadeite and turquoise, stripes can generally be drawn on the glass plate, and jadeite itself is complete. Fake jade is generally soft and can't scrape the glass.

Third, the specific gravity: the real jade feels heavy, and the fake jade floats lightly. This is actually related to the density of jade. Real jade has a fine structure, while fake jade is imitated with plastic and glass. Compared with the volume, the weight of real jade far exceeds the weight of its counterfeit.

Fourth, listen to the sound: hang the jade with a line and beat it with a hard object. The real sound is crisp and pleasant, and the aftertaste is melodious; The fake one is dull and dry.

5. Look at the fracture: When observed with a magnifying glass of 10 times, the fracture of real jade is uneven and presents a fine structure; Fake jade has a neat and shiny fracture, often a glass imitation, and its fracture structure is rough and waxy.
