Erhu is one of the main musical instruments of Huai Opera, and there is a shadow of Erhu in any Huai Opera repertoire.

Accompaniment instruments and orchestral instruments of Huai Opera include erhu, sanxian, dulcimer, flute and suona, while percussion instruments include Pinggu, Su Gong, cymbals and Tang. Huai opera

Huai Opera, also known as Jianghuai Opera, is popular in Jiangsu, Shanghai and parts of Anhui. In the mid-Qing Dynasty, a form of rap was popular in Yancheng and Funing, Jiangsu Province, which was developed from Jia Min Haozi, Tian Ge Lei Lei Tune and Transplanting Tune. The form is a solo or two duets, and only bamboo boards are used for clapping. Later, it was combined with the folk incense opera in northern Jiangsu, which was called Jiangbei Opera. Later, influenced by Hui Opera and Peking Opera, Huai Opera gradually enriched in singing, performance and repertoire.

Artistic features:

The aria music of Huai Opera belongs to banqiang, with [Huai tune], [Latin tune] and [free tune] as the three main tunes. [Huai Diao] is high-pitched, intense and narrative, and is mostly used for narration. The tone is euphemistic and delicate, and the lines are fresh, which is suitable for lyric scenes; [Free Tune] The melody is smooth, plastic and comprehensive. Some tunes derived from the three major themes, such as Monosyllabic Tone, Leaf Tone, Cross Tone, Nanchang Tone, Xiahe Tone, Huai Sad Tone and Da Sad Tone, as well as [Blue Bridge Tone], [Baduanjin], [Dacaitai], [Liuye Tone] and [New Year Picture Tone] which evolved from folk tunes, all have their own auxiliary tunes. As early as the formation stage of Huai harmony (even in the stage of incense play), the main theme was divided into two factions because of language and other factors. East Road has full melody and pure timbre; West Road singing is almost colloquial, short and tough. Huai Opera, popular in Jiangnan after the founding of the People's Republic of China, developed with free tune as the main body, fresh and lively; However, the Huai opera in northern Jiangsu still maintains the practice of taking Huai tune and Latin tune as the main development route, which has a strong local flavor. Many famous and accomplished actors have created new tunes from these different vocal systems, such as the free tunes of Pai (Xiao) and Ma (Tong), the pull-out tunes of Li (Li Shaolin) and He Jiaotian.
